[1] Many farmers at the moment are trying to find sustainable ways to remove pests without harming the ecosystem. [2] [3]
The use of human hands to remove harmful insects or other toxic material is often the most common action by gardeners. [4] It is also classified as the most direct and the quickest way to remove clearly visible pests. [4] However, it also has equal disadvantages as it must be performed before damage to the plant has been done and before the key development of insects. [2]
Mechanical traps or physical attractants are used in three main ways: to efficiently trap insects, to kill them or to estimate how many insects are there in the total landmass using sampling method. [2] However, some traps are expensive to produce and can end up benefiting insects rather than harming them. [2]
Integrated pest control refers to the use of any means to control pests once they reach unacceptable levels. Mechanical pest control is but a minor part of integrated pest control. It means only the use of physical means to control pests.

Entomologists and ecologists have urged the adoption of IPM pest control since the 1970s. IPM allows for safer pest control.

The ways that birds and bears are considered beneficial is mainly because they consume seeds from plant and spread them through feces. Birds also prey on certain insects that eat plants and hinder them from growing these insects are known as non beneficial organisms. Nematodes are considered beneficial because they will help compost and provide nutrients for the soil the plants are growing in. Insects and arachnids help the growing process because they prey on non beneficial organisms that consume plants for food. Fungi help the growing process by using long threads of mycelium that can reach very long distances away from the tree or plant and bring water and nutrients back to the tree or plant roots.

Non-pesticidal Management (NPM) describes various pest-control techniques which do not rely on pesticides. It is used in organic production of foodstuff, as well as in other situations in which the introduction of toxins is undesirable. Instead of the use of synthetic toxins, pest control is achieved by biological means.

A pheromone trap is a type of insect trap that uses pheromones to lure insects. Sex pheromones and aggregating pheromones are the most common types used. A pheromone-impregnated lure, as the red rubber septa in the picture, is encased in a conventional trap such as a bottle trap, Delta trap, water-pan trap, or funnel trap. Pheromone traps are used both to count insect populations by sampling, and to trap pests such as clothes moths to destroy them.

It is widely recommended that every museum have some form of pest control in place and monitoring system to protect their collection and that museums review their storage and museum facilities to determine how to best control and prevent pest infestations while utilizing an Integrated Pest Management plan.

Climate change and invasive species refers to the process of the environmental destabilization caused by climate change. This environmental change facilitates the spread of invasive species — species that are not historically found in a certain region, and often bring about a negative impact to that region's native species. This complex relationship is notable because climate change and invasive species are also considered by the USDA to be two of the top four causes of global biodiversity loss.
