Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai (born 12 July 1964) is an Indian Judge. She has served as Acting Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court. [1]
Sikkim is a state in northeastern India. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China in the north and northeast,Bhutan in the east,Koshi Province of Nepal in the west,and West Bengal in the south. Sikkim is also close to the Siliguri Corridor,which borders Bangladesh. Sikkim is the least populous and second-smallest among the Indian states. Situated in the Eastern Himalaya,Sikkim is notable for its biodiversity,including alpine and subtropical climates,as well as being a host to Kangchenjunga,the highest peak in India and third-highest on Earth. The Sikkim High Court is the High Court of the Indian state of Sikkim. The history of the court can be traced back to 1955,when the High Court of Judicature Proclamation,1955 was issued to establish a High Court in Sikkim. Upon merger,Sikkim became the 22nd State of India. Under Clause (i) of Article 371F,the High Court functioning immediately prior to the date of merger became the High Court for the State of Sikkim under the Constitution like any other High Court in the country. It was established in 1975.

Sikkim Lok Adalat or Sikkim State Legal Services Authority is an statutory and autonomous body and an alternative dispute resolution mechanism used in the state of Sikkim. The Sikkim Lok Adalat Act is designed to provide constitutional protection guaranteed under Article 14 and 39-A of the Constitution of India,of “ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR ALL”. It is a legal system to resolve pending cases at Panchayat or rural places,those in a pre-litigation stage in courts are resolved amicably. It is recognised as statutory authority under the Legal Services Authorities Act,1987 and the Lok Adalats award or decision are deemed to be civil court case and final and enforceable on both parties. Such an award is not appealable in any court of law in the absence of any provision. However,by approaching the court of appropriate jurisdiction,litigation can be initiated by any party in the suit if any of them are dissatisfied with the decision of the Lok Adalat.
