Design and development

The Heli-star is a two place, three rotor helicopter with tricycle landing gear, using modified Enstrom F-28 helicopter rotor blades, gearbox and tail boom. The helicopter can be flown from either seat with dual controls. It was designed by Mike Meger, flight director of Enstrom. [1] The fuselage splits open at the windshield line, sliding forward for access. The helicopter was demonstrated with the front section slid open in flight. [2] [3] [4]

Bensen B-8 Small, single-seat autogyro

The Bensen B-8 is a small, single-seat autogyro developed in the United States in the 1950s. Although the original manufacturer stopped production in 1987, plans for homebuilders are still available as of 2019. Its design was a refinement of the Bensen B-7, and like that aircraft, the B-8 was initially built as an unpowered rotor-kite. It first flew in this form in 1955, and on 6 December a powered version, designated B-8M first flew. The design proved to be extremely popular and long-lasting, with thousands of sets of plans sold over the next thirty years.

Schweizer S333

The Schweizer 330 and S333 are turbine-powered developments of the Schweizer 300 light piston-powered helicopter. As of 2007, only the Schweizer 333 remains in production. In February 2009, the 333 was rebranded as the Sikorsky S-333. In 2018 the Schweizer R.S.G. bought the Schweizer Aircraft from Sikorsky Aircraft and it was rebranded as Schweizer S333 again.

The Borgward BFK-1 Kolibri, aka Borgward-Focke BFK-1 Kolibri, was a German three-seated utility helicopter built by Borgward, designed by Heinrich Focke and was the first German helicopter after World War II. The helicopter first flew on July 8, 1958, in Bremen, piloted by Ewald Rohlfs.

The Spitfire Mark I was a utility helicopter built in the United States in the late 1970s and intended for series production. In essence, the Mark I was an Enstrom F-28 that was modified to use an Allison 250 turboshaft engine and geared transmission in place of the original piston engine and system of vee belts. The resulting powerplant installation was lighter and more compact, which allowed for additional cargo or fuel.

The Spitfire Mark II, later given the name Tigershark, was a utility helicopter built in the United States in the late 1970s and intended for series production. It was a further evolution of the Spitfire Mark I design, a turbine-powered conversion of the Enstrom F-28. Although airframe changes on the Mark I had been minimal, the Mark II had a substantially redesigned fuselage that rearranged the F-28's 2+2 seating to move the pilot's seat forward in the nose by itself and add a bench seat for three passengers abreast behind it. The leftmost seat on the bench could be fitted with dual controls. The fuselage was lengthened, and the powerplant installation was mounted well to the rear. The Mark II still used the dynamic components of the F-28, plus some of its airframe.
