Defibrillation is a treatment for life-threatening cardiac dysrhythmias, specifically ventricular fibrillation (VF) and non-perfusing ventricular tachycardia (VT). A defibrillator delivers a dose of electric current to the heart. Although not fully understood, this process depolarizes a large amount of the heart muscle, ending the dysrhythmia. Subsequently, the body's natural pacemaker in the sinoatrial node of the heart is able to re-establish normal sinus rhythm. A heart which is in asystole (flatline) cannot be restarted by a defibrillator, but would be treated by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation (VF) and pulseless ventricular tachycardia, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electricity which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.
Miss Teen USA is a beauty pageant run by the Miss Universe Organization for girls aged 14–19. Unlike its sister pageants Miss Universe, which currently broadcasts on Fox and Miss USA, this pageant is webcast on the Miss Teen USA website and simulcast on mobile devices and video game consoles. The Miss Universe Organization previously operated Miss Teen USA as well as Miss USA, until Miss USA and Miss Teen USA were split into an independent organization in 2020 under the directorship of Crystle Stewart.

Tracey Conway is a Writer/Performer and was a regular cast member on KING-TV's Almost Live!, a Seattle-based sketch comedy show, from 1984 to 1999. Tracey came to the attention of the Almost Live! creative team while temping in the HR department of KING television as she pursued her theater acting career. Tracey joined the show full-time the fall of 1990 following her first appearance as the witness-on-the-street in Almost Live!’s infamous April Fool’s Day sketch-joke of The Space Needle Collapse. In 1992, just prior to the show starting its two year run on the Comedy Central network, Tracey won the northwest regional Emmy award for Best Talent. January 21st, 1995, at the close of a live taping of Almost Live!, Tracey‘s heart went into the potentially fatal arrhythmia Ventricular Fibrillation and she collapsed from Sudden Cardiac Arrest on the set of the show. At first, the audience thought they were being punked because the cast had done a sketch spoofing ER during the show. Fellow cast members knew this was not a planned/staged stuntfall. As Tracey‘s skin began to turn blue-gray show host John Keister turned to the audience urgently asking for anyone with medical training. There was no doctor, nurse or first responder in the audience, however a volunteer firefighter, Glen MacLellan stood up and suggested Tracey might be having heart problems. He ran down and begin administering CPR while a number of people in the audience and on the crew called 911. With the assistance of another audience member, Kurt Lyson, MacLellan continued CPR until the team of firefighters arrived and took over. They administered Tracey‘s first two defibrillator shocks and then a Medic One paramedic team arrived and continued life-saving efforts, entubating her, providing cardiac drugs and shocking her an additional four times with the defibrillator. After almost 20 minutes, following the sixth defibrillator shock, Tracey‘s heart converted out of V-Fib and begin to beat on its own. She was transported by Medic One to Harborview Medical Center the sole level one emergency hospital in the Northwest and was treated in the emergency cardiac care unit for four days. Following multiple tests that determined her cardiac arrest was idiopathic, she was transferred to Harborview’s sister hospital, the University of Washington Medical Center, where an ICD, was implanted in her chest. Two weeks after Tracey‘s collapse on the set of Almost Live!, she was back on set delivering a line during the live taping. She continued to be a full-time cast member and writer for the remainder of Almost Live!’s 15-year run.
Miss Teen USA 2002, the 20th Miss Teen USA pageant, was televised live from South Padre Island, Texas on 28 August 2002. At the conclusion of the final competition, Miss Wisconsin Teen USA Vanessa Marie Semrow was crowned by outgoing queen Marissa Whitley of Missouri.
Miss Teen USA 2000, the 18th Miss Teen USA pageant, was televised live from Shreveport, Louisiana on August 26, 2000. At the conclusion of the final competition, Jillian Parry of Pennsylvania was crowned by outgoing queen Ashley Coleman of Delaware.
Alyssa Anne George is a pageant competitor from Minneapolis, Kansas who competed in the Miss America pageant in 2008.

The most frequently presented Miss America awards are for preliminary talent and swimsuit. The talent award was introduced in 1936, and the swimsuit award in 1940. In the 2000s, preliminary awards for evening gown and interview were briefly introduced but were discontinued after two years as it was felt that they made the semi-finalists too predictable.
Miss USA 2010, the 59th Miss USA pageant, was held at the Theatre for the Performing Arts in Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 16, 2010. Kristen Dalton of North Carolina, crowned her successor, Rima Fakih of Michigan as Miss USA 2010 at the end of this event.

Miss USA 2014, the 63rd Miss USA pageant, was held at the Raising Cane's River Center Arena in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on June 8, 2014. All fifty states and the District of Columbia competed. The preliminary competition was not webcast live for the first time in five years, but excerpts were distributed post-competition via website Hulu. The final night of competition was televised on NBC.

The Miss America 2019 pageant was the 92nd Miss America pageant, though the Miss America Organization celebrated its 98th anniversary in 2018. This discrepancy is due to national pageants not being held from 1928–1932 or in 1934 because of financial problems associated with the Great Depression. The 2019 pageant was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. On May 23, 2018, it was announced that the pageant would air live on ABC on Sunday, September 9, 2018. This was the last Miss America to be aired on ABC before would be moving to NBC beginning from 2020 pageant.

Coffey's is Start-A-Heart, a program that raises awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and raises money for emergency defibrillators in schools and other places. It is somewhat of a personal cause for her. Her cousin suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 8 after getting hit in the chest with a baseball.
