Meka Venkata Pratap Apparao (born 11 October 1950) [1] is an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. [2] He is a three-time MLA from Nuzvid Assembly Constituency in Krishna District. He won for the third time in 2019. [3] He is nominated by YSR Congress Party to contest the Nuzvid assembly seat in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election to be held on 13 May 2024. Early life and education

Pratap hails from Nuzvid in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. His is the son of Meka Venkata Swetha Chalapathi Venu Gopala Apparao of Meka family, [5] which has ruled the Nuzvid seat for over half a century. [6] He is the grandson of Meka Rangaiah Apparao, former vice chancellor of Andhra University. He is a businessman. He did his graduation in commerce from DAR College, Nuzvid in 1971. He married Sujatha Devi.[ citation needed ]

Career

Pratap was elected as Nuzvid MLA for the first time in 2004 on Indian National Congress Party ticket. [7] He joined YSR Congress Party in 2014 and contested the Nuzvid seat representing YSRCP and won the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election defeating Muddaraboina Venkateswara Rao by a margin of 10,397 votes. [8] He was re-elected for the third time winning on YSRCP seat defeating Rao again by a margin of 16,210 votes in the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election. [9]
