Melania is an upcoming American political documentary film directed and produced by Brett Ratner. It documents Melania Trump, the first lady of the United States, in the twenty days before her husband Donald Trump's second presidential inauguration.
The film is set to premiere at the Kennedy Center and will be released in theaters by Amazon MGM Studios on January 30, 2026. [1]
In January 2025, Amazon MGM Studios announced that Brett Ratner will direct a documentary film about Melania Trump, the first lady of the United States. [2] Disney and Paramount Pictures bid for streaming rights to the film, as reported by Matthew Belloni of Puck News , but Amazon outbid both and agreed to pay $40 million to license the film and produce a follow-up docuseries on the first lady. [3] Filming for the documentary began in December 2024, following the U.S. presidential election, with Trump serving as executive producer alongside Fernando Sulichin. [2] [4]
Melania will mark Ratner's first film since numerous women accused him of sexual misconduct in 2017. [5] In December 2025, a month before the documentary was set to be released, Ratner was confirmed by People to have been among those named in Virginia Giuffre's lawsuit as being among the men who she was obliged to have sex with when she was a part of Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring, with an Epstein Files photo revealing Ratner posing shirtless with Epstein associate Jean-Luc Brunel.
