Melanie Greally is an Irish lawyer who is a judge of the High Court since 2022. She was a Circuit Court judge between 2014 and 2022 and was previously a barrister.

Early life

Greally attended University College Dublin, from where she obtained a BCL degree in 1989. [1] [2] [3]

After attending the King's Inns, she was called to the Bar in 1991. [2] [1] She appeared in criminal trials acting as prosecution barrister and defence counsel. [4] [5] She acted in High Court cases for the Minister for Justice in cases involving arrest warrants. [6] [7] [8]

Judicial career

Circuit Court

Greally became a judge of the Circuit Court in November 2014 and was assigned to the Dublin circuit in July 2015. [9] [1]

She has heard cases involving assault, money laundering, theft, dangerous driving, sexual offences and fraud. [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] She was the presiding judge in the unsuccessful prosecution of Paul Murphy and others for the charge of false imprisonment of Joan Burton. [16]

Lord Justice Holroyde, is an English Court of Appeal judge, formerly a judge of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales, Queen's Bench Division. He was appointed to the Court of Appeal in October 2017. He was sworn of the Privy Council in 2017. In 2015 he was appointed a member of the Sentencing Council for England and Wales, and served as its Chairman between 2018 and 2022. In June 2022 he was appointed Vice-President of the Court of Appeal, succeeding Lord Justice Fulford.

Séamus Philip Woulfe is an Irish judge and lawyer who has served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Ireland since July 2020. He previously served as Attorney General of Ireland from 2017 to 2020. Prior to holding public office, he was a barrister with a practice in the areas of commercial and public law.

Mary Ellen Ring is an Irish lawyer who currently serves as a Judge of the High Court. She was the Chairperson of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission between 2015 and 2021. She formerly practised as a barrister and was a Judge of the Circuit Court.

Úna Ní Raifeartaigh is an Irish lawyer who has served as a Judge of the Court of Appeal since November 2019.
