Melvin Chee (born 1974) is a Singaporean designer, artist and painter. He is one of the founding partners of contemporary art and design collective PHUNK.
Chee graduated in 1994 with a Diploma in Visual Communications (Graphic Design) from LASALLE College of the Arts. [1]
Chee met the founding members of PHUNK while they were studying at LASALLE College of the Arts. Upon their graduation in 1994, they decided to form the art and design collective together. [2] They have since presented and collaborated with brands and organisations around the world, such as Nike, MTV, HBO and The Rolling Stones. In 2007, they were conferred the Designer of the Year Award at the President’s Design Award in Singapore. [3]
As a self-taught painter, Chee works primarily in the medium of oil on canvas. He is represented by Saatchi Art, [4] and describes his work as being a process of “putting [his] observations on canvas.”
The Rhode Island School of Design is a private art and design school in Providence, Rhode Island. Lee Wen was a Singapore-based performance artist who shaped the development of performance art in Asia. He worked on the notion of identity, ethnicity, freedom, and the individual's relationship to communities and the environment. Lee's most iconic work is his performance series titled The Journey of aYellow Man, which started as a critique of racial and ethnic identities in 1992 and has evolved into a meditation on freedom, humility, and religious practices over more than a decade. Painting his own body with bright yellow poster paint, he expresses an exaggerated symbol of his ethnic identity as a citizen of Singapore. He was also active in artist-run initiatives, especially as part of The Artists Village (TAV) in Singapore, the performance artist collective Black Market International, as well as the festivals Future of Imagination and Rooted in the Ephemeral Speak (R.I.T.E.S.). On 3 March 2019, he died due to a lung infection, at the age of 61.
Ong Kim Seng, was born in Singapore and has been a full-time artist since 1985. He has participated in group and solo exhibitions at Singapore and in the United States, China, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Federal Republic of Germany, France, Middle East, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the ASEAN countries.
PHUNK is a Singapore-based contemporary art and design collective founded by Alvin Tan, Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan, and William Chan in 1994. They have exhibited and collaborated with artists, designers and fashion brands around the world, producing work across a diverse range of mediums.

Yale-NUS College is a liberal arts college in Singapore. Genevieve Chua is a painter who works primarily through abstraction. Chua employs a method of working that unfurls and reveals the painter's process through diagram, palimpsest, syntax, and the glitch. While notions of nature and wilderness persist across several works, the form taken by her exhibitions – image, text or object – is mediated through painting.
Chng Seok Tin was a visually-impaired printmaker, sculptor and multi-media artist from Singapore. She was often inspired by the i-Ching and Buddhism. Her work has been shown internationally; Chng had over 26 solo shows and 100 group shows. In addition to her art, she was also a prolific writer and has published 11 collections of her writing, mostly in Chinese. She also advocated for artists with disabilities.
Jackson Tan is a Singaporean artist, curator, and designer. He is one of the founding partners of contemporary art and design collective PHUNK, the creative director of multidisciplinary creative studio BLACK, and the creator of Art-Zoo.
Alvin Tan is a Singaporean artist, designer and creative director. He is one of the founding partners of contemporary art and design collective PHUNK, and the co-founder of eyewear label Mystic Vintage.

The history of Singaporean art may include, for instance, artistic traditions of the Malay Archipelago, portraiture, landscapes and natural history drawings of the colonial period, Chinese ink painting, Islamic calligraphy, Nanyang style paintings, social realist art, abstract art, and art practices using other traditional media such as sculpture, photography, and printmaking.
