Memsource (now Phrase) is a cloud-based commercial translation management system and computer-assisted translation (CAT) tool. It is developed by Memsource a.s., headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic. [1] According to research by Deloitte, in 2020 Memsource a.s was one of the top 50 fastest growing IT companies in the Czech Republic. [2]

History

Memsource was founded in 2010 by David Čaněk. Memsource Cloud was launched for the public at the beginning of 2011.[ citation needed ]

In the third quarter of 2015 Memsource translated over a billion words on its platform for the first time. [3]

In May 2018, Memsource was granted a patent for its AI non-translatables feature [4] and in October 2018, launched its second AI feature, a quality estimation endpoint to enable users to see MT quality scores before post-editing [5] [6] [7]

In 2019, Memsource was ranked as the Most Viable Product in the Marketflex for Language-Oriented TMS, published by Common Sense Advisory (CSA) research. [8]

In July 2020, The Carlyle Group acquired a controlling share in Memsource for an undisclosed sum. [9] [10] [11]

In January 2021, Memsource a.s acquired the Hamburg-based TMS Phrase. [12] [13]

Features

Memsource’s features include support for translation memory, termbases, automatic quality assurance, CMS connectors, REST API, and 3rd party machine translation engine connectors. [14] [15] Machine translation is also natively supported through the Memsource Translate hub, which includes AI-powered management features such as fully managed engines, MT Autoselect and machine translation quality estimation. [16] The platform supports over 50 file types, including custom file types. [17]

Memsource is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. [18] It is also accessible through a mobile application on Android and iOS devices. [19]

Transcription software assists in the conversion of human speech into a text transcript. Audio or video files can be transcribed manually or automatically. Transcriptionists can replay a recording several times in a transcription editor and type what they hear. By using transcription hot keys, the manual transcription can be accelerated, the sound filtered, equalized or have the tempo adjusted when the clarity is not great. With speech recognition technology, transcriptionists can automatically convert recordings to text transcripts by opening recordings in a PC and uploading them to a cloud for automatic transcription, or transcribe recordings in real-time by using digital dictation. Depending on quality of recordings, machine generated transcripts may still need to be manually verified. The accuracy rate of the automatic transcription depends on several factors such as background noises, speakers' distance to the microphone, and accents.

Google Brain was a deep learning artificial intelligence research team under the umbrella of Google AI, a research division at Google dedicated to artificial intelligence. Google Neural Machine Translation (GNMT) was a neural machine translation (NMT) system developed by Google and introduced in November 2016 that used an artificial neural network to increase fluency and accuracy in Google Translate. The neural network consisted of two main blocks, an encoder and a decoder, both of LSTM architecture with 8 1024-wide layers each and a simple 1-layer 1024-wide feedforward attention mechanism connecting them.
