Mercy Asiedu (born 9 May 1971) [1] is a Ghanaian veteran actress who has contributed to the growth of the movie industry. [1] [2] [3] She is known for the role she played in Concert Party and Asoreba. [4] [5] She is also known as being one of the popular Kumawood actresses starring in several roles in the 2000s. [6]

Career

She began acting when she was a teenager, as part of the Kristo Asafor Concert Party group. She is known for the controversial roles she has played in movies. [7] She has acted in several Kumawood movies, movies from Kumasi produced in the local dialect of the Akans, Twi. [8] [9] She has been in movies with Agya Koo, Lil Win, Kwaku Manu, Aboagye Brenya to mention a few. [10]

Personal life

On 2 April 2017, she married Nana Agyemang Badu Duah, a Chief of Kunsu in the Ahafo Ano South District in the Ashanti Region. [1] [11] [12] She has three children, two sons and a daughter. [13] [14]

Politics

In September 2016, she endorsed the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. [15] In July 2016, she came out to say that she would curse anyone who made claims that she had collected money to campaign for the then ruling National Democratic Congress. [16]

Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is a Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist. He is known by his stage name Shatta Wale, formerly Bandana. His best-known singles are "Dancehall King", "My level" and "We taking over". He is also known for "Already" from Beyoncé's Black Is King which also featured Major Lazer. His song "Dancehall King" earned him the Artiste of the Year at the 2014 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Wale is also an actor who appeared in the films Never Say Never, The trial of Shatta Wale and Shattered Lives. Wale's 2004 recording "Moko Hoo" was nominated for a Ghana Music Award.

The 2010 Ghana Movie Awards was the maiden edition of the ceremony to reward cinematic achievement in Ghana Film Industry. The event was held at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra on 25 December 2010. Sinking Sands, Juliet Ibrahim, Nadia Buari, Yvonne Okoro, Majid Michel, John Dumelo & Genevieve Nnaji were among the winners.

The 2013 Ghana Movie Awards was held at the Accra International Conference Center on 30 December 2013. A Northern Affair and Contract were the top winners for the night.
