Mercyhurst Ice Center is a 35,280 square foot, 1,500-seat hockey rink in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States. It is home to the Mercyhurst University Lakers Men's and Women's ice hockey teams. The center was the first privately funded ice rink in Erie when it opened on 8 December 1991. The school expects to retire its 30-year construction bond through the assessment of a student fee, which produces $80,000 annually.
Meghan Christina Agosta is a Canadian women's ice hockey forward, who last played for the Montreal Stars of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Agosta played for the Canada women's national ice hockey team and is a three-time gold medallist from the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. At the 2010 Winter Olympics, Agosta was named MVP of the Women's Hockey Tournament. She is a multi-medallist at the Women's World Championships with two gold medals and six silvers.
The 2009–10 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey team represented Mercyhurst College in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Lakers were coached by Michael Sisti. Assisting Sisti are Paul Colontino and Louis Goulet. Mike Folga was the Head Equipment Manager. The Lakers will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Women's Frozen Four for the second consecutive season. Vicki Bendus, Bailey Bram and Jesse Scanzano were all Top-10 finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Award. This marked only the third time in NCAA history that one school had three nominees in the Top 10. Bendus was honoured with the award.

The Lakers qualified for the Frozen Four and were finalists in the 2009 NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship. The Lakers went 16-0 in conference play last season en route to their seventh-straight CHA Title. From 2002 to 2009, the Lakers were 74-3-5 in the regular season against CHA competition and 14-0 in the postseason.

Jesse Scanzano is a Canadian retired ice hockey forward. She was selected fifth overall in the 2011 CWHL Draft. Mercyhurst's Jesse Scanzano was a three-time All-College Hockey America selection and a member of the CHA All-Rookie Team in 2007–08. She ranks No. 2 in career points (225) in CHA history. In her Junior year with Mercyhurst, Scanzano led the NCAA in points with 65. Scanzano played for the 2011–12 Canada women's national ice hockey team and appeared in the 2011 4 Nations Cup.
Vicki Bendus is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who last played for the Brampton Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). While playing collegiate hockey with the Mercyhurst Lakers, she won the 2010 Patty Kazmaier Award, awarded to the top player in women's NCAA hockey. She was also selected for the Canadian national women's team that will compete in the 2010 Four Nations Cup. Bendus was the leading scorer at the 2011 MLP Cup.

The Mercyhurst Lakers, representing Mercyhurst University which is located in Erie, Pennsylvania, are composed of 24 teams in intercollegiate athletics. The Lakers compete in NCAA Division I and are members of the Northeast Conference for most sports. The men's and women's ice hockey teams are members of Atlantic Hockey America, formed shortly after the 2023–24 season by the merger of the men's former home of the Atlantic Hockey Association and the women's former home of College Hockey America. The men's and women's water polo teams play in the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
The Mercyhurst Lakers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association hockey team that represents Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania under Head Coach Rick Gotkin. The team is currently a Division I hockey team playing out of the Mercyhurst Ice Center located on the school campus. The Mercyhurst Lakers started out as a club sport at the school, moving up to Division III, followed by Division II, and now plays in Division I in Atlantic Hockey America, formed shortly after the 2023–24 season by the merger of the Lakers' former home, the Atlantic Hockey Association, with College Hockey America. After joining their step up into Division I in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 1998, the Lakers have won their conference tournament making NCAA tournament appearances in 2001, 2003, and 2005.
Bailey Bram Mitchell is a Canadian retired ice hockey player. As a member of Team Canada, she won a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and five IIHF Women's World Championship medals, one gold and four silver, from 2012 to 2017.
The 2005 AHA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the 2nd Atlantic Hockey Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. It was played between March 9 and March 19, 2005. Play-in and quarterfinal games were played at home team campus sites, while the semifinals and championship games were played at the Quinnipiac home venue: Northford Ice Pavilion in Northford, Connecticut. By winning the tournament, Mercyhurst received the Atlantic Hockey Association's automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament.
The 2001 MAAC Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the 3rd championship in the history of the conference. It was played between March 10 and March 17, 2001. Quarterfinal games were played at home team campus sites, while the final four games were played at the UConn Ice Arena in Storrs, Connecticut, the home venue of the Connecticut Huskies. By winning the tournament, Mercyhurst received MAAC's automatic bid to the 2001 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament.
Rick Gotkin is an American ice hockey head coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the Mercyhurst Lakers men's ice hockey team, a position he has held since 1988.
The Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program represented Mercyhurst University during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. Their conference mark was 15-3-2, earning them the College Hockey America regular season title. In the postseason, the Lakers were defeated 2-1 in overtime by the RIT Tigers during the CHA championship tournament. The Lakers would qualify for the NCAA Tournament. In the quarterfinals, the Lakers defeated Cornell by a 3–2 mark in Ithaca, New York. Advancing to the Frozen Four in Hamden, Connecticut, the Lakers were bested by the eventual national champion Golden Knights.

Michael Sisti is the women's ice hockey current head coach at Mercyhurst University. Since 1999, he has coached Mercyhurst to 4 Frozen Four appearances, 15 College Hockey America (CHA) post-season titles, and 1 Great Lakes Women's Hockey Association (GLWHA) post-season title. He reached 500 wins in 2020, becoming only the second coach in Division I women's college hockey to achieve that milestone. In 2018, he was inducted into the Erie Hall of Fame.

The Mercyhurst Lakers represented Mercyhurst University in CHA women's ice hockey during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Lakers were undefeated on home ice. Mercyhurst won the College Hockey America Tournament with a 2–1 overtime win over regular season champions, Robert Morris. The overtime victory came at 4:19 with a goal from Summer-Rae Dobson. As tournament champions, Mercyhurst earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament to determine the national championship. On March 12, 2020, the NCAA Tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
