The University of Tartu is a university in the city of Tartu in Estonia. It is the national university of Estonia. It is the only classical university in the country, and also its biggest and most prestigious university. It was founded under the name of Academia Gustaviana in 1632 by Baron Johan Skytte, the Governor-General (1629–1634) of Swedish Livonia, Ingria, and Karelia, with the required ratification provided by his long-time friend and former student – from age 7 –, King Gustavus Adolphus, shortly before the king's death on 6 November in the Battle of Lützen (1632), during the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648).

Riin Tamm is an Estonian geneticist and a science popularizer. She is the head of the Department of Youth and Talent Policy within the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research. She has previously served as the director of University of Tartu Youth Academy.
Ann Tenno is an Estonian photographer and photo artist. Lonely Planet states that "some of the most spectacular and sensitive photographs of Estonia have been taken by Ann Tenno and published in books which best capture the spirit of Estonian nature." She is noted in particular for her town landscapes, especially photographs of the Estonian capital of Tallinn, and the churches and manor houses of Estonia.
Anastassia Kovalenko is an Estonian motorcycle road racer. She is racing in European Junior Cup and is first female racer in Estonian road racing history to race on the international level. She currently holds the title of the best female motorcycle athlete of the year in Estonia. Her debut year was 2012 when she was riding a Kawasaki Ninja 250r. On the side of her motorcycling career she is acquiring her Master of Business Administration.
Ruth Alas was an Estonian management scientist. She was the head of the Department of Management of the Estonian Business School until her death. Alas has written more than 100 articles and 23 textbooks in topics relating to management and business.
