MetaLab is an interface design firm headquartered in Victoria, British Columbia [1] that provides product management, software engineering and UX research services.

MetaLab was founded in 2006 by Andrew Wilkinson. In January 2017, MetaLab became a daughter company of Tiny. [2] MetaLab also founded Pixel Union, which provides themes for platforms like Tumblr, Shopify [3] and WordPress.

Its clients include Slack, Google, Uber, and Amazon. [4]

Mozilla

In March 2010, Andrew Wilkinson (co-founder of MetaLab) wrote a blog post claiming that Mozilla 'literally copied images straight off our site' for use in the design of their FlightDeck editor. [11] [12] The story, which was picked up by TechCrunch, [13] caused Mozilla to tell Wilkinson that "the design which used MetaLab's site's design elements was a development build and, according to Mozilla the design has been changed in newer builds." Wilkinson then requested a public apology.

For shoppers, Tictail was a destination to discover and shop home decor and fashion finds from a global community of emerging designers. Founded in Stockholm, Tictail currently has offices in both Sweden and New York where it opened its first brick-and-mortar store in January 2016. In November of 2018, Tictail was sold to Shopify. The acquisition by Shopify also resulted in Tictail’s brick-and-mortar store in New York City closing.
