Metrodora Institute was a clinic in the Salt Lake City, Utah area that specialized in treating complex medical conditions. According to its website, the clinic is now closed.
Named for Metrodora, an ancient Greek female physician and author, the clinic was co-founded in 2021 by Instacart CEO Fidji Simo, Laura A. Pace, and James Hemp. Simo explained that she started Metrodora because of difficulties she had in getting care for her personal health problems of endometriosis and POTS. [1] In 2021, it was slated to open in the summer of 2022, but it ultimately opened its doors on April 19, 2023, with funding from Simo herself and a venture capital firm. [1] [2] [3]
Metrodora treated illnesses it described as "neuroimmune axis disorders", such as endometriosis, migraines, long COVID, ME/CFS, and POTS using a multidisciplinary approach that permitted doctors from multiple specialties to collaborate. [2] These conditions have limited treatment options and Metrodora's CEO considered them neglected. [4] A nonprofit arm called the Metrodora Foundation collaborated with pharmaceutical and technology companies to perform research. [5] Patients could participate in clinical trials and contribute samples to a biobank.
