Metropolis is a 40-storey residential / hotel skyscraper in the Auckland CBD of Auckland, New Zealand, developed in 1999 by Krukziener Properties. Commended for its style and quality, the NZ$180 million cost of its construction also led to major financial fallout. [2] Metropolis is considered one of Auckland's most exclusive apartment buildings, [3] and it was the tallest residential building in New Zealand until 2020 when the nearby Pacifica was completed.
The building was constructed from mainly reinforced concrete from 1997 to 1999, when it became the tallest building in New Zealand for one year until it was surpassed by the Vero Centre. The building contains 368 apartments in addition to 55 hotel rooms, and was designed by Peddle Thorp Architects.
On 11 December 2013, Alain Robert climbed the building as part of a promotion for the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. [4]
Q1 Tower is a 322.5-metre (1,058 ft) supertall skyscraper in Queensland, Australia. The residential tower on the Gold Coast was the world's tallest residential building from 2005 to 2011. As of September 2022, it is the 14th tallest residential tower in the world, the tallest building in Australia, the second tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere, and the third-tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere, behind the Autograph Tower in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand. The Q1 officially opened in November 2005.
The Book Tower is a 145 m (476 ft), 38-story skyscraper located at 1265 Washington Boulevard in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, within the Washington Boulevard Historic District. Construction began on the Italian Renaissance-style building in 1916, as an addition to the original Book Building, and finished a decade later, making it, at the time, the tallest building in Detroit. When completed in 2024, it will be the tallest residential building in New Zealand, surpassing the 178.7-metre-tall (586 ft) The Pacifica. The building will overlook Auckland city and the surrounding Waitematā Harbour at 187 metres (614 ft) and 56 floors in height. It is set to cost NZ$300 million to complete.
