Michael Alford (born 1969) is the current athletic director for Florida State. Alford was previously the athletic director for Central Michigan. [1]
Alford first attended Mississippi State University but then transferred to the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While at UAB, Alford received his bachelor's degree in communication. Later, Alford received his master's degree in athletic administration from the University of Arkansas. [2]
Alford became the athletic director for Central Michigan University following marketing positions for Alabama, the Dallas Cowboys, and Oklahoma. While at Central Michigan, Alford hired eight head coaches for various departments and guided Central Michigan to a 600% revenue increase. [3]
After briefly being the CEO for Seminoles Boosters, Alford became the athletic director for Florida State University. Alford replaced David Coburn who retired days earlier. [4]
Herman Ronald "Herm" Frazier is a retired American sprinter. He won gold medals in the 4 × 400 m relay at the 1976 Olympics and 1975 and 1979 Pan American Games. Individually he earned a bronze medal in the 400 m event at the 1976 Olympics. He served as chef de mission of the 2004 U.S. Olympic team and as the Athletic Director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Hawaii. He currently serves as the senior deputy athletics director at Syracuse University.
Donald Earl James was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at Kent State University from 1971 to 1974 and at the University of Washington from 1975 to 1992, compiling a career college football record of 178–76–3 (.698).
Terry Wilson Bowden is an American college football coach. He was most recently the head football coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, a position he held until the conclusion of the 2023 season. Bowden was the head football coach at Salem University (1983–1985), Samford University (1987–1992), Auburn University (1993–1998), the University of North Alabama (2009–2011), and the University of Akron (2012–2018). Herb Deromedi is a retired American football coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Central Michigan University from 1978 to 1993, compiling a record of 110–55–10. His 110 wins remain the most for a Central Michigan coach and stood as a record within the Mid-American Conference until 2019 when Frank Solich of Ohio University surpassed it. Following his coaching career, Deromedi served as athletic director at Central Michigan from 1994 to 2006.
Warren Hugo Paul Schmakel was an American football player, coach, scout, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Central Michigan University in 1950 and at Boston University from 1964 to 1968, compiling a career college football record of 26–28–2. Schmakel later served as the athletic director at Boston University and at Illinois State University, and as a scout for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL).
James Frank McElwain is an former American football coach. He was the head football coach at Central Michigan University, a position he held from 2019 to 2024. He announced his retirement at the end of the 2024 season and remained at CMU within the athletics department. McElwain served as the head football coach at the University of Florida from 2015 to 2017, and Colorado State University from 2012 to 2014, where he was named the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year in 2014. Enos served as head football coach at Central Michigan University from 2010 to 2014. He was also running backs coach at Michigan State University, where he played as a quarterback from 1987 to 1990.
