William L. Proctor (born January 27,1933) is an American politician and university administrator. Proctor served as president of Flagler College in St. Augustine,Florida between 1971 and 2001. He then served as Chancellor of Flagler College from 2001 to his retirement from that post in 2020. [3] [4] [5]
In addition,he has served on Florida's State Board of Education,as a state representative for the Florida Legislature,as a St. Augustine city commissioner,as a chairman of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida association,as a member of the board of trustees of the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind and as a vice-chairman of the Florida Education Standards Commission.
Proctor was born in Atlanta,Georgia in 1933,and moved to Florida in 1944. Proctor attended the University of Florida,Stetson University,and Florida State University. He received a bachelor's degree (1956),master's degree (1964) and doctorate (1968) from Florida State University. In addition,Proctor served in the United States Army Reserve from 1954 through 1964.
Proctor was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2004 and subsequently reelected,representing Florida's 20th District.
Proctor played college football at Florida State University in 1955 [6] and was selected in the 1955 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns,in the 20th round, [7] although he never played professionally. [8] He was inducted into Florida State University's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988. In 2007,Proctor was named the interim athletic director for the Florida State Seminoles,serving until Randy Spetman was hired as the permanent athletic director in February 2008. [9]

William E. Peterson was an American football player,coach,and college athletics administrator. His career included head coaching stops at Florida State University,Rice University and with the Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL). Considered one of the unique characters in college sports,Peterson is credited with bringing the pro passing game to college football. He is also known as the "Coach of Coaches",having tutored such coaches as Joe Gibbs,Bill Parcells,Bobby Bowden,Don James,Dan Henning,Ken Meyer and many others. Coach "Pete",as he was known,is also remembered for his reshaping of the English language. One of his more novel expressions was to have his team "pair off in groups of threes,then line up in a circle." Beyond his trials with syntax,Peterson is best remembered for bringing the Seminoles to the forefront of college football,using pro-style offenses and a much feared passing game.
Flagler College Tallahassee is a branch campus of Flagler College,a private liberal arts college in St. Augustine,Florida. It is hosted through Tallahassee Community College and was founded in 2000 as the product of a legislative mandate to expand opportunities for four year degree-seeking students. The campus offers bachelor's degree programs in six majors and four minors.
Lincolnville Historic District is a neighborhood in St. Augustine,Florida established by freedmen following the American Civil War and located on the southwest peninsula of the "nation's oldest city." It was designated as an historic district in 1991 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Randall William Spetman is an American college athletic director who was most recently athletic director at Florida State University from 2008 to 2013. Spetman has also been the director of athletics at Utah State University and the United States Air Force Academy. He was a vice president of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics during the 2009–10 academic year.
Randy Reese is an American college and Olympic swimming coach. Reese is best known for coaching the Florida Gators swimming and diving teams of the University of Florida to four national championships,and coaching the winners of eighteen Olympic gold,eight silver and eight bronze medals. Reese is a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
John E. Thrasher is a former state legislator,businessman,lawyer and lobbyist who served as the 15th President of Florida State University. He was approved by the Florida Board of Governors on November 6,2014 and took office on November 10,2014. On September 11,2020,Thrasher and the university board of trustees announced his retirement in a joint statement. In May 2021,Richard McCullough was chosen by Florida State University’s Board of Trustees to succeed Thrasher.
Charles W. LaPradd was an American football player during the early 1950s. He played college football for the University of Florida and was recognized as an All-American as a defensive lineman. He later served as the president of St. Johns River Community College in northeast Florida.
St. Augustine,Florida,the oldest continuously occupied settlement of European origin in the continental United States,was founded in 1565 by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. The Spanish Crown issued an asiento to Menéndez,signed by King Philip II on March 20,1565,granting him various titles,including that of adelantado of Florida,and expansive privileges to exploit the lands in the vast territory of Spanish Florida,called La Florida by the Spaniards. This contract directed Menéndez to explore the region's Atlantic coast and report on its features,with the object of finding a suitable location to establish a permanent colony from which the Spanish treasure fleet could be defended and Spain's claimed territories in North America protected against incursions by other European powers.

Fort Fulton was established on February 21,1840,between Old Kings Road and Pellicer Creek in present-day Flagler County,Florida. A January 17,1840 article in the Florida Herald of St. Augustine stated,"Can anyone inform us why the Mounted Volunteer Company,raised in this city,and now stationed at Hewlett’s [Hewitt’s] Mill,is weakened by a detail of ten men subject to the order of the city council,and kept in town idle." This article suggests that Fort Fulton was most likely manned with militia volunteers since it was the only military post in the general area of Hewitt's Mill. Hewitt's Mill was a sawmill built in 1768 by John Hewitt on his 1,000-acre plot of land in St. Johns County. This sawmill is known to have supplied many wooden building materials to the St. Augustine area and surrounding plantations.
James Paul "Bo" Clark is an American former college basketball coach and author. He was the head men's basketball coach at Flagler College in for 31 years and led his teams to 491 wins. In his tenure,the Saints qualified for three National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national basketball tournaments. The court at Flagler is named in his honor. The "Clark Family Court" was dedicated on February 18,2017. Clark is also the career points leader for the University of Central Florida.
