Michael Kagan is a Brooklyn-based artist.

Biography

Born in 1980 in Virginia Beach, Michael Kagan received his BA from The George Washington University and MFA from New York Academy of Art, where he also completed a postgraduate fellowship in 2005. [1] [2]

Contents

Kagan has exhibited worldwide in group and solo exhibitions including an upcoming exhibition at Almine Rech in London (2022); [3] Bill Brady Gallery, Miami, FL, USA (2018); [4] and a recent solo exhibition at Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, [5] [6] Virginia Beach, VA, USA (2019/2020).

Kagan’s work is in the private collections of the Hall Art Foundation, [7] Reading, VT, USA; Maki Collection, [8] Tokyo, Japan; amongst others.

Special projects include a painting commission from The Smithsonian, [9] [10] [11] an apparel collaboration with Pharrell Williams [12] [13] and the Billionaire Boys Club, and album cover artwork for The White Lies album Big TV which won an Art Vinyl award for Best Art Vinyl, 2013. [14] A recent monograph of his work was released in 2019 by ARTBOOK | DAP.

RISK, also known as RISKY, is a Los Angeles-based graffiti writer and contemporary artist often credited as a founder of the West Coast graffiti scene. In the 1980s, he was one of the first graffiti writers in Southern California to paint freight trains, and he pioneered writing on "heavens", or freeway overpasses. He took his graffiti into the gallery with the launch of the Third Rail series of art shows, and later created a line of graffiti-inspired clothing. In 2017, RISK was knighted by the Medici Family.

Leah Dickerman is the director of research programs at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. She was formerly director of editorial & content strategy at MoMA. Serving previously as the museum’s first Marlene Hess Curator of Painting and Sculpture, a post endowed in 2015, Dickerman previously held the positions of curator of painting and sculpture at MoMA (2008–2015), acting head of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Art (NGA), Washington, D.C. Juana Valdés is a multi-disciplinary artist and an associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Arcmanoro Niles is an American visual artist working in painting. Niles was born in Washington, D.C., in 1989, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated high school from Duke Ellington School of the Arts in 2008, while also attending night classes at Washington Studio School. He later graduated from the School of Art and Design at Montgomery Community College, Silver Spring (2010), Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, and the New York Academy of Art, New York. Niles was also an artist in residence at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2018.
