Anacle Michael Ghounam Kiessou better known by his stage name Michael Kiessou [1] is a Cameroonian singer and entertainer. [3] He came to wide public attention [4] with his song Bennam. [5] [6] from his debut EP Partage [7] released on 2 April 2014. Twice-nominated for the Canal 2'Or Act 10 (Canal 2 International Awards), he won the Best video award with Tourner les reins. [8] [9] and Best Male Artist at the 2015 GreenLights Awards.

Early life

Born in Douala, he is a native from the MiFi and Koung-Khi from the West Region (Cameroon). From a young age, he had been lulled by world music and traditional rhythms of his native West. Early influenced by great Cameroonian artists such as Sam Fan Thomas, Douleur, Richard Bona, and many others, throughout his high school studies, he fed his passion and developed his art in school competitions.

Career

2010–2013: Radio and TV host

After achieving his bachelor degree in organizations communication at the University of Douala, Michael stepped into radio entertainment. During a training course at the RTM Radio Douala, he met Joyce Fotso, who guided him in his debut as radio and TV host. Two years later, he joined the television channel Canal 2 International in which he will host shows such as Sweet Surfer on Sweet FM radio, Comptoir dafrik and Urban list. [ citation needed ]

Debuts music career

Alongside his TV-radio host activity, he decided to step into the music industry by collaborating with Edel Koula, a local rnb singer. Thus, the single Demoiselle [10] marked the debuts of his music career .In March 2013, he met the producer Philjohn [11] who made him sign under his record label Hope Music Group .

2013–2015: Partage (first EP)

In 2013 after signing to Hope Music Group, Michael returned working to studios and focusing on his new music. Produced by Philjohn, Abele was released on 17 July 2013 and became the first single from the EP. Michael through the video concept, honored the festive movement found in Littoral Region (Cameroon) marked a happy event. To support this move, Michael also paid tribute to the famous Sam Fan Thomas's "Makassi dance" . [ citation needed ] The video was directed by NS Pictures and the world exclusive premiered on the Jambo show of Canal 2 International the 28 July 2013 and YouTube on 3 August 2013.[ citation needed ]

Controversy

On the eve Christmas Eve, Michael decided to end his career through a post on his official Facebook page. [12] The news gone viral, the media relayed the information, public opinion was split and asked for clarification on the matter. Some decried a buzz strategy or marketing campaign as the single Wopalilo was about to go out the next week. Through a press release to the medias and public, Hope Music group confirmed the information and tried to reassure in promising an eventual return of the artist. Michael fans and sympathizers sent him a letter four days following the announcement, [13] to remind him that "we don't quit a battle before fighting it" . Finally, during the radio program generations 2.0 of Brice albin on radio nostalgie Michael announced his return and dropped his Wopalilo video. [14]

Tours and residencies

Wopalilo Live Tour The Wopalilo live Tour [34] was the first concert tour by Michael. Announced in October 2014 with initial dates mostly in Central Africa, the tour contained 5 legs and 50 shows. It began in Yaoundé, Cameroon on 18 December 2014 and ended in Douala, Cameroon on 30 August 2015. Its title is a reference to his brand new single Wopalilo featuring Cameroonian rapper C-prime, who made multiple guest appearances throughout the tour. [35]

Partage is an album that was released by the Cameroonian singer Michael Kiessou on April 2, 2014, worldwide. A deluxe version of the EP was released worldwide on August 29, 2015, and was distributed by Sony Music Entertainment via The Orchard (company). The EP is a walk of more than an hour in the heart of African rhythms revisited and modernized by Michael and his team Kiessou orchestration. Thereby emerge new musical variations such the Kwatt'nB & the Neo Bend-skin. Alongside these crossbreeding, Michael browsed through new genres from elsewhere as Afropop and even Electronic dance music.

La loi de la nature is an album that was released by the Cameroonian singer Dynastie Le Tigre on May 30, 2015, worldwide. A deluxe version of the album was released worldwide on May 26, 2016, by Tiger Prod and was marketed & distributed by Hope Music Group. The album is a walk of more than an hour in the heart of African rhythms revisited and modernized by Dynastie and his Dynastie family orchestration. Cameroonian Sports Federation for People with Disabilities was one of the primary national sports federation for people with disabilities in Cameroon prior to the organization being dissolved in August 2011. It served as the country's National Paralympic Committee for many years. Problems with internal governance arose starting in the early 2000s and continued until the federation closed.

On 21 October 2016, a Camrail inter-city passenger train travelling from Cameroon's capital, Yaoundé, to its largest city, Douala, derailed in Eséka, Centre Region. By 30 October 2016, the official number of casualties had reached 79 dead, with 550 injured. It was the deadliest rail crash on the African continent since the August 2007 Benaleka train accident.

Françoise Foning was a Cameroonian businessperson and politician for the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM). She began a career in business at age 12, opening a restaurant before entering into the tourism, transportation, food, medical and education sectors. Foning became president of CPDM's women's division in 1992 and was appointed the party's leader in Douala and the national committee five years later. In 2002, she was elected deputy mayor of Douala II and began serving in the National Assembly that same year. Foning led the African Network and Cameroonian Businesswomen and consulted The World Bank, the African Development Bank along with several international agencies. She was founding president of the Association of Cameroonian Businesswomen and the NGO World Female Company Managers. A street in Douala was named in her memory.

Wamba Kuegou Sabrina Ruth, is a Cameroonian Afropop Afrobeat singer and songwriter. She is an Afrobit Productions signed artist since 2019. On November 16, 2021, she released her debut Album Love Aganda. Her hit song Abele is the result of her collaboration with Koffi Olomide which will allow the young singer to reach a wider audience. This track is now ranked among the top ten collaborations of the Congolese artist.

Miss Grand Cameroon is a beauty pageant title given to Cameroonian representatives competing at the Miss Grand International pageant. The first titleholder was Marie Cecile Olga, who was appointed to the position in 2013 by the director of Megane Fashion International and Olga's agent, Armstrong Loga. The license was then transferred to a newly established national contest headed by Marina Tchassem Fankam named Miss Prestige Cameroun and to Angèle Kossinda in 2014 and 2022, respectively.
