Michael Lambert (born June 25, 1986) is a Canadian snowboarder who currently resides in Toronto, Ontario. Michael competes in the Alpine disciplines, Parallel GS and Parallel Slalom. Lambert has been on the Canadian National Team since 2002 and is currently working with coaches Mark Fawcett and Sylvain Jean. He is also the Slap cup champion of Stoney island

Personal

Michael was featured in the MTV Canada series 'Summer Sessions' alongside fellow national riders like Jasey-Jay Anderson, and Matthew Morison. [1] He also featured in the follow-up MTV show Over the Bolts which followed the Canadian national team over the season. Lambert was one of the shows featured team members and closely followed him as well as his close friendship with Kimiko Zakreski. The show featured Lambert's frustration with his results on the world cup season. Michael's relationship with Nina Mićić, a Serbian snowboarder and fellow world cup tour member on the women's side is also televised on the show.

Career

Junior

Michael achieved his first success with the national team winning a silver medal at the 2006 FIS Junior Snowboarding World Championships in the parallel slalom, an event where teammate Matthew Morison finished 5th.

Lambert also competed in the Nor-Am cup, the Nor-Am Cup is a competition held in the United States as well as Canada. It is known for being a square one for younger athletes to compete and make a name for themselves before making the national team on the World Cup and going to the World Championships. According to the International Ski Federation, Lambert placed first in the 2006 Nor-Am Cup in Mt. St.-Louis/Moonstone Canada, for the Parallel Slalom event while bringing in third place in the Parallel Giant Slalom. The previous year Lambert came in second place in both Mount Norquay in Alberta, Canada and Squaw, California for the Parallel Giant Slalom.

FIS World Cups

Lambert achieved his first success on the world cup tour in the 2009–10 season when he finished second in the race at Telluride, Michael had finished 6th on the Telluride slopes only two days earlier. Lambert lost the final to teammate and world champion Jasey-Jay Anderson. On January 17, 2010 Lambert won his first world cup gold medal in Nendaz, Switzerland. [2] With the gold Lambert now has two career world cup podiums in addition to his second-place finish at Telluride, Colorado earlier in the 09–10 season. [3]

Vancouver 2010 Olympics

Lambert was a member of team Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. [4]

Sochi 2014 Olympics

Lambert failed to qualify for the Men's Parallel Giant Slalom, coming in 27th (second to last). [5] Lambert expressed his displeasure in the Sochi games, which was received with mixed responses. [6]

U.S. Snowboarding Race to the Cup

The U.S. Snowboarding Race to the Cup was created in 2005 by U.S. Snowboarding in order to provide a high-level domestic competition series for alpine snowboarders. The purpose of the U.S. Snowboarding Race to the Cup is to develop young alpine riders for World Cup level competition.

Matthew Morison is a Canadian amateur Snowboarder who currently resides in Kamloops, British Columbia. Morison has qualified to compete at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. Matthew, a native of Burketon, Ontario began snowboarding at the Oshawa Ski Club at a young age. By Age 11, Morison was already beating senior men in races. Matthew competes in Alpine disciplines, Parallel GS and Parallel Slalom. He attended Courtice Secondary School.

Kimiko Zakreski Canadian snowboarder

Kimiko Zakreski is a Canadian snowboarder who currently resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Zakreski competes in alpine disciplines, Parallel GS and Parallel Slalom.

Nevin Galmarini Swiss snowboarder

Nevin Galmarini is a Swiss snowboarder and Olympic Champion. In February 2018 Nevin Galmarini won a gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea in the Parallel giant slalom. In 2009, he won the Swiss nationalships and became Swiss champion in parallel giant slalom. He competed in the parallel giant slalom for Switzerland during the 2010 Winter Olympic games in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and in the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia where he won the silver medal. He currently resides in Ardez, Switzerland.

Caroline Calvé is a Canadian snowboarder. As a child, Skiing was the first sport she took interest in, and later on became a coach and certified instructor. At age 21, she made her snowboarding debut, and prepared for the Olympic Games.

Alena Igorevna Zavarzina is a Russian former snowboarder specializing in parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom disciplines. She is the 2011 World champion and bronze medalist from the 2014 Winter Olympics in parallel giant slalom. She won the parallel giant slalom crystal globe in 2016/17 World Cup season.

Snowboarding at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Snowboarding at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi was held at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. The events were held between 6 and 22 February 2014. A total of ten snowboarding events were held at Sochi 2014 which include parallel giant slalom, snowboard cross, half-pipe, and the new events of parallel slalom and slopestyle.

Ester Ledecká Czech snowboarder and skier (born 1995)

Ester Ledecká is a Czech snowboarder and alpine skier. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Ledecká won gold medals in the super-G in alpine skiing and in the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding, becoming the first person to not only compete in the Winter Olympics using two different types of equipment but further to win two gold medals and do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the second woman to win Olympic gold in two separate disciplines but the first to do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the first Czech to win the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding at the FIS Snowboard World Cup.

Kaspar Flütsch Swiss snowboarder

Kaspar Flütsch is a Swiss alpine snowboarder. He represented his nation Switzerland at the 2014 Winter Olympics, and has achieved numerous top ten finishes in alpine snowboarding at the FIS World Cup series. Since his illustrious sporting career began at eleven, Flütsch continues to train for Panys Ski Club under his personal coach Franco Giovanoli.

Sylvain Dufour French alpine snowboarder

Sylvain Dufour is a French alpine snowboarder. He claimed two silver medals each in giant slalom and slalom at the 2009 FIS Snowboarding World Championships in Gangwon, South Korea, and later represented his nation France in two editions of the Olympic Games. Dufour currently trains for Ski Club Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines under his personal coach and mentor Christophe Guinamard.
