Michael Philip Christie (born 21 April 1981) is an English singer-songwriter, composer, and baritone for the music group G4, [1] along with Jonathan Ansell. The operatic harmony group was a finalist on The X Factor in 2004. [2] Christie performs online concerts via CrowdCast. [3]
Christie was born in Redhill, Surrey. He began singing professionally at the age of eight when he was offered a place as a chorister at Reigate St Mary's Choir School, and in 1993 he moved to Ardingly College where he studied singing under John Dudley and Robert Hammersley. During this period, he appeared in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral as a member of a choir at one of the weddings. [4] He later spent four years at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 2004 with Honours in Singing and Piano. [5] [6]
Before graduating, Christie auditioned for The X Factor as a member of G4 with Jonathan Ansell, Matt Stiff, and Ben Thapa, where they placed second behind Steve Brookstein. The group released three albums before their split in 2007. After a seven-year hiatus, G4 reunited for a concert at the Barbican Hall, [7] with Nick Ashby replacing Matt Stiff. The same night, G4 announced they would follow the concert with a Reunion Tour across the UK. Christie has been on a Christmas By Candlelight Tour along with the other members of G4 in 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2016, G4 went on a Back For Good Tour with special female guest singers Margaret Keys, Katie Marshell, Alessandra Paonessa, and Vox Fortura.
In 2017, G4 released its fifth album Love Songs featuring Merrill Osmond and Lesley Garrett, and went on a 32-date tour around the UK and Ireland.
In 2018, G4 went on a 36-night tour called 'Live in Concert 2018' during March and September.
In 2010, Christie released his debut solo album To The Fore [8] which was a departure from classical crossover songs, and included several of his own songs including "Why Not Today". A year later, he was featured in a production of The Glorious Ones, [9] and in 2013, his own opera The Miller's Wife – written entirely in English – was shown at the Arcola theatre. [10]
Christie has been participating in opera at Opera Holland Park in London since 2016 and appeared in Isabeau in the summer of 2018. In 2017, Christie was involved in performances of Verdi's Macbeth, where he played the role of Banquo.
Christie went on a solo tour in October 2017 with songs from his album To The Fore. Christie also announced he was making a new album via PledgeMusic which was released on 5 October 2018 called "10 Years On", which was followed by a 5-date tour, "An Evening with Mike Christie Up Close and Personal." It included songs from the album and guests at venues included Daniel Boys, Mary-Jess Leaverland, and Kyle Thomlinson.
Christie worked in property development shortly after the G4's split.[ citation needed ] Since the reformation of G4, Christie has opened his own production company, Amick Productions, which promotes tours of which G4, Vox Fortura, and Mary-Jess Leaverland have been included. [11]
Amick Productions staged a four-day outdoor prom on the Isle of Wight in August 2018 at Northwood House. [12] The event featured Blake and Kerry Ellis, as well as other West End stars and local island talent.
In 2024, Christie came out as gay. He is married, with two children. [13]
Michael Ashley Ball is an English singer, presenter and actor. In 1985, he made his West End debut as Marius Pontmercy in the original production of Les Misérables. In 1989, he reached number two in the UK Singles Chart with "Love Changes Everything", from the musical Aspects of Love, where he played Alex Dillingham. He played the role in the West End and on Broadway. His album Coming Home To You reached number one in the UK making it his 4th number one album to date. On 24 April 2020, Ball and Captain Tom Moore entered the UK Singles Chart at number one with a cover of "You'll Never Walk Alone", with combined chart sales of 82,000 making it the fastest-selling single of 2020.
G4 are a four-piece British vocal troupe who first came to prominence when they finished second in Series 1 of The X Factor in 2004, and are known for their operatic delivery of modern pop songs. Originally a barbershop quartet, the members met at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, from which the name G4, standing for "Guildhall 4", derives.
Jonathan Mark Ansell is an English singer, best known as the high tenor of the vocal group G4.
Matthew William Tansley Stiff, formerly credited as Matt Stiff, is an English opera singer and former radio presenter, best known as the former bass singer with classical boyband G4.

Rhydian James Roberts, also known mononymously as Rhydian, is a Welsh former baritone singer, television presenter and musical theatre actor. He rose to fame in series 4 of The X Factor (2007), and subsequently became less widely known. Rhydian Roberts retired from performing in February 2023 with a farewell album. He is currently an artist manager at Neil O'Brien Entertainment.
The New London Children's Choir was a children's choir which rehearsed at Highgate Primary School in North London and, latterly, All Hallows, Gospel Oak, giving singing opportunities to members aged seven to eighteen. Members were from London and surrounding areas. It was founded in 1991 by Artistic Director Ronald Corp and held its last rehearsal in July 2022. As well as performing its own concerts, the choir sang with orchestras and ensembles in many concert halls and opera houses worldwide and features on several film and TV soundtracks and CDs.

The Tommy Tour was a concert tour by the English rock band the Who. It was in support of their fourth album, the rock opera Tommy (1969), and consisted of concerts split between North America and Europe. Following a press reception gig, the tour officially began on 9 May 1969 and ended on 20 December 1970. The set list featured the majority of the songs from Tommy, as well as originals and covers.
