Michael P. Dempsey is a former acting Director of National Intelligence,serving from January 20,2017 to March 15,2017. [1] [2]
Previously,Dempsey served as the deputy director of national intelligence and President Obama's primary intelligence briefer from 2014 to 2017. In this role,he led the integration of the US intelligence community's 16 agencies. Dempsey also regularly participated in National Security Council,Principal,and Deputy Committee meetings and presented congressional testimony.
Dempsey is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Formerly CFR's National Intelligence Fellow,Dempsey published 45 articles in more than a dozen publications,including Foreign Affairs,Foreign Policy,Bloomberg,CNN,WIRED,Harvard Business Review,Washington Post,Wall Street Journal,and the New York Times.
Dempsey is currently vice president of government affairs for space,cyber,and intelligence at Northrop Grumman. He is also a non-resident research scholar at Columbia University.

The director of national intelligence (DNI) is a senior cabinet-level United States government official,required by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 to serve as executive head of the United States Intelligence Community (IC) and to direct and oversee the National Intelligence Program (NIP). All IC agencies report directly to the DNI. The DNI also serves,upon invitation,as an advisor to the president of the United States,the National Security Council,and the Homeland Security Council on all intelligence matters. Frances M. "Fran" Fragos Townsend is an American lawyer and business executive who served as Homeland Security Advisor to United States President George W. Bush from 2004 to 2007,and was formerly the executive vice president for corporate affairs,corporate secretary,and compliance chief officer for Activision Blizzard,until September 2022,due to Microsoft acquiring Blizzard for $75 billion. She previously served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Combating Terrorism. In 2008,Townsend joined CNN as a contributor,but later switched over to CBS where she is a national security analyst for them. Townsend was president of the Counter Extremism Project.
The National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) is a United States government organization responsible for national and international counterterrorism efforts. It is based in Liberty Crossing in McLean,Virginia. NCTC advises the United States on terrorism.

James Robert Clapper Jr. is a retired lieutenant general in the United States Air Force and former Director of National Intelligence. Clapper has held several key positions within the United States Intelligence Community. He served as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) from 1992 until 1995. He was the first director of defense intelligence within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and simultaneously the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. He served as the director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) from September 2001 until June 2006.
Membership in the Council on Foreign Relations comes in two types:Individual and Corporate. Individual memberships are further subdivided into two types:Life Membership and Term Membership,the latter of which is for a single period of five years and is available to those between the ages of 30 and 36 at the time of their application. Prior to joining Centrus Energy,he served as United States Deputy Secretary of Energy from 2009 to 2014. He is also a Distinguished Fellow at the Paulson Institute at the University of Chicago and a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School. Poneman was Acting Secretary of Energy in 2013 following the resignation of Steven Chu until Ernest Moniz was confirmed and sworn in.

The Boren-McCurdy intelligence reform proposals were two legislative proposals from Senator David Boren and Representative Dave McCurdy in 1992. Both pieces of legislation proposed the creation of a National Intelligence Director. Neither bill passed into law.
