Mike Maccagnan is a former American football executive. He served as general manager for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL) from 2015 to 2019.

Early life

He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut with a bachelor's degree in economics. Before that, he attended the Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ. He then attended Trinity-Pawling School in Pawling, NY for his postgraduate year. Maccagnan played lacrosse and football in high school and also for Trinity College. [1]

Career

He joined the Washington Redskins scouting department as an intern during the team's training camp in 1990. He joined the front-office of the newly-founded World League of American Football as a league scout before becoming the director of player personnel for the London Monarchs in 1991.

He spent one and a half seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a director of scouting and player personnel for the Ottawa Rough Riders and Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1993 to 1994.

Maccagnan was reunited with the Washington Redskins as a scout from 1995 to 2000. He then joined the Houston Texans shortly after Charley Casserly's appointment as general manager. He spent 15 years with the organization, starting as a coordinator of college scouting, rising in 2011 to director of college scouting. [2]

Maccagnan was hired as the general manager of the New York Jets on January 13, 2015. [3] Shortly following his hiring, Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles was hired as the new head coach. On December 29, 2017 it was announced that Maccagnan had signed a contract extension through 2020. [4] He was fired by the Jets on May 15, 2019, and was replaced by Joe Douglas in June. [5] [6]

Phil Savage was also on ESPN for several years as a guest host.

Ronald Wolf is the former American football general manager (GM) of the National Football League (NFL)'s Green Bay Packers. Wolf is widely credited with bringing success to a Packers franchise that had rarely won during the two decades prior to Wolf joining the organization. He also played a significant role in personnel operations with the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders from 1963 to 1975 and again from 1978 to 1990. He joined Green Bay's front office in November 1991 from a personnel director's job with the New York Jets. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August 2015.

He previously served as a front office executive for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. Albert J. Smith is a former American football player, coach, scout, and executive. He served as a part-time scout for several NFL and USFL teams before joining the Buffalo Bills in 1986, serving as a scout and executive for them for 14 years. With the Bills, the team won four AFC Championships. He joined the San Diego Chargers in 2001 as a director of pro personnel, and was promoted to general manager and executive vice president for them two years later. He stayed with the Chargers until being fired following the 2012 season. Smith's son, Kyle, is also an NFL scout and executive.

William Patrick Polian Jr. is an American football executive. He rose to league prominence as the General Manager of the Buffalo Bills, building a team that participated in four straight Super Bowls—the most consecutive appearances by any team—but lost each time. Following his stint in Buffalo, Polian went on to become the general manager of the expansion Carolina Panthers. He then served as general manager and team president of the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) from 1998 to 2011, where they reached two Super Bowls, winning XLI. He subsequently served as an NFL analyst for ESPN. Polian was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015. Polian co-founded the now-defunct Alliance of American Football in 2018.

Carl Mathew Theodore "Ted" Sundquist II is an American football player, manager and commentator. He spent sixteen years working in the National Football League for the Denver Broncos franchise. Sundquist was hired in 1992 as the player personnel assistant, and two years later promoted to director of college scouting. In 2001, Pat Bowlen promoted Sundquist to general manager.

Rod Graves is the former senior vice president of football administration for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He is best known for his time as general manager of the Arizona Cardinals. He had previously spent time with the Cardinals as vice president of football operations, after being promoted to that position from assistant to the president following the 2002 season.

Bowles has also served as the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals and Buccaneers and as the secondary coach for the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and Philadelphia Eagles.
