Marion "Mike" Menning (born July 27,1945) is a former politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate and the Minnesota House of Representatives from southwestern Minnesota. He was first elected to the House as a representative of District 26A in 1974,served one term,and then ran successfully for the District 26 senate seat in 1976. He was re-elected to the Senate in 1980. Because of the 1980 redistricting,that term was two years in duration. He represented all or portions of Murray,Nobles,Pipestone and Rock counties. [1]
From the town of Edgerton,Menning,a local businessman,made energy,agriculture,education and transportation his special concerns during his time in the legislature. While in the House,he served on the Agriculture,Commerce &Economic Development,and Transportation committees. In the Senate,he served on the Energy &Housing,Finance,Local Government,and Transportation committees,and on various sub-committees relevant to each area. During the 1981–83 session,he chaired the Finance Committee's sub-committee on Semi-States/DOT (Minnesota Dept. of Transportation). [2]
Menning's brother-in-law,Gaylin Den Ouden,also served in the Minnesota Legislature from 1977 to 1987. From Prinsburg,Den Ouden represented District 21B. [3]
After his service in the legislature concluded,Menning switched political parties,leaving the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party in 1983 to become a member of the Republican Party of Minnesota. In 1986,he campaigned for the Republican endorsement for governor. [4] However,the party's endorsement eventually went to fellow southwest Minnesota resident Cal Ludeman of Tracy. Menning subsequently threw his support to Ludeman, [5] who lost the November general election to popular incumbent governor Rudy Perpich.
In 1985,Menning co-authored the book "Us Four:A Senator,His Family,Their Brain Injured Child" along with Ruth Peterman of Minneapolis. [6] The book documented his family's struggle to get help for their son,who was born with microcephaly. During this time,he also became active in Friendship Ministries,a Christian organization that works on behalf of children with special needs and their parents. He helped start groups or chapters of the organization in his home town of Edgerton,and also in Willmar. [7]
Putting politics aside,Menning eventually left Minnesota,moving to Salt Lake City,Utah with his family,where he served as pastor of the Mountain Springs Community Church for five years, [8] [9] also continuing his work with Friendship Ministries. He also heads Global Partners,Inc.,an area charitable organization. [10]

James Murray Vickerman was an American politician from Minnesota who served as Minnesota State Senator,first elected in 1986 in the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's "firestorm" that swept southwestern Minnesota during the height of the 1980s Midwestern farm crisis. In that election,he unseated incumbent Senator Doran Isackson,winning by a substantial margin. He was re-elected in 1990,1992,1996,2000,2002 and 2006. On February 22,2010,he announced that he would not seek an eighth term,noting that he was doing so "with the satisfaction that when it's done right,our government can and does serve people." His term officially ended on January 3,2011.
Satveer Singh Chaudhary is an American criminal and immigration lawyer. He is also a politician and a former member of the Minnesota State Senate and the Minnesota House of Representatives serving from 1996 to 2010. During his fourteen-year tenure,Chaudhary represented portions of Anoka and Ramsey counties in the northern Minneapolis and St Paul metropolitan area. The Senate District at the time of his departure from politics was known as Senate District 50. However,Chaudhary also represented the area in the Minnesota House from 1997-2000 as District 52A;and in the Senate from 2001 to 2002 as Senate District 52. While in office,Chaudhary served as a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party,was the first Asian American legislator in Minnesota history. He was also the first South Asian senator in American history and for a time was the highest ranking political official of South Asian descent,as well as one of the youngest senators in that state's history.
Ron Erhardt is a politician from the U.S. state of Minnesota and former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. He represented District 49A,which included most of Edina in Hennepin County.
Keith Langseth is a Democratic Farmer Labor Party politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate,representing District 9 since 1981 until 2013. Theodore J. "Ted" Winter is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from southwestern Minnesota. First elected in 1986 in the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's "firestorm" that swept through the region,giving Democrats unprecedented control of southwestern Minnesota for the next several election cycles,Winter served eight terms. He was re-elected in 1988,1990,1992,1994,1996,1998 and 2000. He represented the old District 28A and,later,District 22A,which included all or portions of Cottonwood,Jackson,Lyon,Murray,Nobles and Redwood counties,changing somewhat through redistricting in 1992.
Roger A. Laufenburger was a Minnesota politician and a member of the Minnesota Senate who represented the old District 2 and,after the 1972 redistricting,District 34,which included portions of Olmsted,Wabash and Winona counties in the southeastern part of the state. A Democrat,he was elected to the Senate in 1962,and was re-elected in 1966,1970,1972,and 1976.
