P. Michael Sturla (born February 18,1956) is an American politician serving as a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He has represented the 96th District in Lancaster County,including the city of Lancaster,Manheim Township and East Petersburg since 1991. Sturla served as House Democratic Policy Committee Chair until 2020. He currently serves as the Democratic minority chair of the House Urban Affairs Committee.
For most of his tenure in the legislature,he has been the only Democrat representing a significant portion of Lancaster County at the state or federal level.
Sturla graduated from the University of Kansas in 1979 with a degree in environmental design. After college,he founded a painting and construction firm with his brother and later founded Aarchitrave,an architecture firm.
He was elected to the Lancaster City Council in 1987 and served on the Council until his election to the House.
In August 2011,Sturla stirred controversy with written remarks he made about proposed drilling in the Marcellus Shale regions of Pennsylvania. He wrote that increased drilling would lead to the "spread of sexually transmitted disease amongst the womenfolk." [2] Sturla apologized for his "insensitive" remarks,but defended himself by saying that his comments were based on a report to the Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission. [3]
Mike Sturla endorsed Tom Wolf in the 2014 Democratic Primary for Governor. [4]

On August 14,2024,Sturla announced that he would not seek reelection,retiring at the end of his term. [6]
H. William DeWeese is an American politician who is a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party,DeWeese served as the 135th Speaker of the Pennsylvania House from 1993 to 1994. After five years of investigation by Republican State Attorney General Tom Corbett,he was indicted in December 2009 on six charges of conflict of interest,theft and criminal conspiracy on accusations that two members of his staff used state resources to campaign for political office. The trial began January 23,2010. He was re-elected in 2010 despite the charges,but was convicted of five of the six felony charges on February 6,2012.

From 2007 to 2013,he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives,representing the York County-based 95th district. He was the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania's 10th congressional district in the 2020 election. Since leaving office,DePasquale served as an adjunct professor at Widener University School of Law,and is currently an adjunct law professor at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2023,he announced his candidacy in the 2024 Pennsylvania Attorney General election.

Michael Coyne Turzai is an American politician and former Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives who served as Speaker of the House. He is from Allegheny County and represented the 28th legislative district between 2001 and 2020. Turzai served as the House Majority Leader from 2011 until 2015,and was elected Speaker in January 2015. The Marcellus natural gas trend is a large geographic area of prolific shale gas extraction from the Marcellus Shale or Marcellus Formation,of Devonian age,in the eastern United States. The shale play encompasses 104,000 square miles and stretches across Pennsylvania and West Virginia,and into eastern Ohio and western New York. In 2012,it was the largest source of natural gas in the United States,and production was still growing rapidly in 2013. The natural gas is trapped in low-permeability shale,and requires the well completion method of hydraulic fracturing to allow the gas to flow to the well bore. The surge in drilling activity in the Marcellus Shale since 2008 has generated both economic benefits and considerable controversy.

The primary elections were held on May 15. This was the only Democratic-held governorship up for election in a state that Donald Trump won in the 2016 presidential election.

Democratic state attorney general Josh Shapiro defeated Republican state senator Doug Mastriano to win his first term in office. Shapiro succeeded Democratic incumbent Tom Wolf,who was term limited.
The Pennsylvania Auditor General election of 2020 took place on November 3,2020. Primary elections were originally due to take place on April 28,2020. However,following concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic the primaries were delayed until June 2,2020. Under the Pennsylvania Constitution incumbent Democratic Auditor General Eugene DePasquale was ineligible to seek a third consecutive term.
