Milk Vita is a milk production company that produces milk under its own name. It is owned by Bangladesh Milk Producers Co-operative Union Limited, a cooperative managed by itself. [1] [2] Milk Vita has 40 percent market share of liquid milk in Bangladesh as of 2021. [3]

History

The company was established as a cooperative that would collect milk from farmers in rural areas and sell them in urban areas of Bangladesh. Products manufactured by the company include liquid milk, yogurt, cream, powder milk, butter, and ghee. [1] The company was founded in 1974. [4] In 2016, a government report found 12 private milk producers in Bangladesh were imitating the packaging of Milk Vita. [5]

TINE SA is the largest Norwegian dairy product cooperative consisting of around 15,000 farmers and 5,600 employees. As of 2013, it has a revenue of 20.4 billion Norwegian kroner (NOK). The parent company, TINE SA, is a cooperative society owned by its suppliers, the milk producers who deliver milk to the company. The corporation domestically offers the entire spectrum of dairy products, and in many dairy categories, Tine faces little or no domestic competition. This monopolistic position has led to criticism of Tine when shortages occur. The cooperative movement in India plays a crucial role in the agricultural sector, banking and housing. The history of cooperatives in India is more than a hundred years old. Cooperatives developed very rapidly after Indian independence. According to an estimate, more than half a million cooperative societies are active in the country. Many cooperative societies, particularly in rural areas, increase political participation and are used as a stepping stone by aspiring politicians.

Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Ltd has been formed in 1970 as a state government cooperative for facilitating procurement, processing, and marketing of milk and dairy products under brand name "Vita" in state of Haryana. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Cooperation, Government of Haryana. It procures milk from its producers particularly belonging to economically weaker sections in state of Haryana and subsequently processes into milk and various milk products for marketing through affiliated milk unions. It provides education to the unions on dairy processing efficiency, and helps them with guidance on animal care including artificial insemination, vaccination, and feeding.
