The College academy team, is regarded throughout the British college leagues, as one of the best teams in the country, alongside Hackney Community College and Barking Abbey of East London.
The team achieved this status, after their 2008/2009 season (their second season), where they went undefeated in all SESSA competitions, winning the cup, knocking out Hackney in the process, and beating them twice in the league to top the table undefeated. They came second in the British Colleges Elite league to Hackney, losing once, and lost to Hackney in the Final of the British Colleges Cup, and reaching the Final Fours in the playoffs.

In 2007/2008 several of the academy's squad began practicing with parent BBL club, Milton Keynes Lions with prospect Greg Harvey finding himself on the team's roster in the latter months of the season. Harvey rounded off his season with participation in the 2008 BBL Playoff Final vs Guildford Heat seeing playing minutes in both the 3rd and 4th quarters, picking up 1 foul and 1 rebound wearing the number 5 jersey.
Possible closure
In summer 2012 MK Lions announced they would be leaving Milton Keynes due to the closure of Prestige Homes Arena and fears were raised this could signal the closure of the basketball academy. On 8 August 2012 it was announced the BBL side would be moving to London for the 2012/13 season, with Mike New opting to remain in Milton Keynes as head coach of the academy side, turning down the opportunity to coach the new London Lions.[1]
During the 2006/2007 academic year the Lions provided player Liam Court to coach twice weekly training sessions for students who played basketball with the view to a team playing in leagues and cups, however games were never organized.

The Milton Keynes Lightning are an ice hockey team founded in 2002 and then again in 2019 in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The Lightning currently play in Britain's second-tier professional league, the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL), since the 2019–20 season. Tom Hancock is an American basketball player and coach. He started coaching college basketball at the University of Maryland in 1978, working for Lefty Driesell. After a year at the University of Evansville, he went to the University of Tennessee at Martin in the Gulf South Conference. Prior to his arrival, Tennessee Martin had lost more games than any other conference school. From the 1982-83 season until 1988, Hancock’s teams won more than any other school in the GSC; won two conference championships, were rated in the top 20 in Division II basketball four times, and went to the NCAA tournament twice. Hancock was voted GSC Coach of the Year in 1982-83 and was named the Best Men’s Basketball Coach in the history of Tennessee Martin by the ESPN Encyclopedia of College Basketball.

London Capital, officially called PAWS London Capital in reference to their partnership with PAWS Foundation, were a basketball team based in London, England. The team competed in the British Basketball League for a three-year period in 2007-2010, but were demoted to the second-tier EBL Division 1 following a review of the team's progress both on and off the court. The team were subsequently relegated to Division 2 at the end of the 2011/2012 season, and were withdrawn from the league in October 2013 for "failing to fulfil National League obligations".

The Essex & Herts Leopards were an English semi-professional basketball club, based in Brentwood, Essex and St Albans, Hertfordshire. The season featured 12 teams from across England and Scotland including a new entrant, the reformed Manchester Giants, who were based on the original franchise of the same name that folded in 2001. East London Royals were due to become the 13th member of the League, but after their financial backing fell through weeks before the start of the season, the League deferred their entry until the 2013–14 season. The pre-season also saw long-time member franchise Milton Keynes Lions relocate to London and rebrand itself as the London Lions, whilst Cheshire Jets – encountering severe financial difficulties and threatened with the franchise being dissolved – were saved by campaigning local fans and businessmen and renamed as Cheshire Phoenix midway through the season.
The Caledonia Gladiators are a professional basketball club in Glasgow, Scotland. The Gladiators compete in the British Basketball League, the top tier of British basketball. Since 2012, the team have played their home games at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. The team's traditional rivals are the Newcastle Eagles. The club was formed in 1998 as the Edinburgh Rocks, it was renamed to the Scottish Rocks in 2002, and the Glasgow Rocks in 2009. In 2022 it was announced they would be rebranded as the Caledonia Gladiators after a change in ownership.
