The Ministry of Digital Affairs (Polish: Ministerstwo Cyfryzacji) is a ministry of the Polish government founded in December 2015, dissolved in October 2020 and founded again in May 2023. Split from the Ministry of Administration and Digitization, the Ministry is responsible for matters regarding development in the cyber sphere for Poland. [1] The first Minister of Digital Affairs was Anna Streżyńska. After she was recalled on 9 January 2018, the Ministry was under personal supervision of the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki until 17 April 2018 when Marek Zagórski was appointed the Minister of Digital Affairs. The ministry was made defunct in 2020 following a Council of Ministers decree. [2] The Ministry is functioning again since 1 May 2023 following a Council of Ministers decree. [3]

The current minister is Krzysztof Gawkowski, serving since 13 December 2023, serving concurrently as a Deputy Prime Minister, under Prime Minister Donald Tusk. [4] [5]

Responsibilities

The Ministry of Digital Affairs is to develop infrastructure related to broadband, to support the creation of web content in Poland and electronic services. It is also promoting digital awareness among Polish citizens. [1]

The Ministry is responsible for 8 departments and 4 bureaux.

There are 23 national parks in Poland. These were formerly run by the Polish Board of National Parks, but in 2004 responsibility for them was transferred to what is now the Ministry of Climate and the Environment. Polish law allows modern firearms ownership under police-issued permit for people who can provide an important reason. Hunting, sport shooting and collection are the most popular reasons and require membership in suitable organizations. Self-defense reason, while allowed, requires a proof of threat to life, health or property and is rarely allowed. Antique firearms or their replicas and some air guns are available without a permit. With approximately 2.5 civilian firearms per 100 people, Poland is the 166th most armed country in the world. Less than 0.8% of citizens have valid firearm permits.

The Social Committee of the Council of Ministers is an advisory body to the council of ministers of the Republic of Poland and the President of the Council of Ministers. The committee's major objective is review social affairs within the framework of the 1st and 2nd cabinets of Mateusz Morawiecki. Established in 2017, the Committee was originally chaired by Beata Szydło, the previous prime minister and incumbent Deputy Prime Minister. Piotr Gliński has been President of the Committee since June 24, 2019, following his predecessor's election to the European Parliament.
