The Beaver Mills are a historic mill complex located at 93-115 Railroad Street in Keene, New Hampshire, United States. The complex consists of two late 19th century brick mill buildings, along with several adjacent support buildings including warehouses, garages, and a boiler house. The oldest buildings at the site date to 1871–2.
The Central Mills Historic District encompasses a historic mill complex on the Quinebaug River in central Southbridge, Massachusetts. Located at the corner of Foster and North Streets, the site consists of three brick buildings, the oldest of which has portions dating to 1837. Despite being extensively rebuilt in the early 20th century, the complex has an appearance that is more typical of 19th century mills.
District D is a historic worker housing district located in Manchester, New Hampshire, near the former Amoskeag Manufacturing Company millyard. It is roughly bounded by Canal, Langdon, Elm, and West Brook streets, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 12, 1982. It contains three residential buildings constructed in 1864 in an area of about 3 acres (1 ha).
The Hillsborough Mills are a historic textile manufacturing complex at 37 Wilton Road in western Milford, New Hampshire, near its town line with Wilton. The oldest buildings of the brick mill complex were built in 1866 as a carpet-making operation. This business failed in 1874, but the complex was acquired by other textile interests, and eventual saw success producing carpet yarns, and blankets for horses and bedding. The mills were closed in 1970, and have since been adapted for other uses. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
Pacolet Mills Cloth Room and Warehouse is a historic textile mill located at Pacolet, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. It was built in 1906–1907, and consists the 1 1/2-story, brick cloth building with the attached warehouse portion covered with weatherboard and metal. the building features a low-profiled roof and large rounded arch windows. The front portion of the building was used for inspecting cloth prior to shipping, and the rear portion was used as a warehouse.
Rock Hill Cotton Factory, also known as Plej's Textile Mill Outlets, Ostrow Textile Mill, and Fewell Cotton Warehouse, is a historic textile mill complex located at Rock Hill, South Carolina. The mill was built in 1881, and is a two-story, 12 bay by 16 bay, brick factory. It features a three-story tower at the main entrance. A number of additions have been made to the building. The Fewell Cotton Warehouse is a one-story, brick and wood frame warehouse built before 1894.
The Cocheco Mills comprise a historic mill complex in the heart of Dover, New Hampshire. The mills occupy a bend in the Cochecho River that has been site of cotton textile manufacturing since at least 1823, when the Dover Manufacturing Company supplanted earlier sawmills and gristmills. The present mill buildings were built between the 1880s and the early 20th century, and were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
Erwin Cotton Mills Company Mill No. 1 Headquarters Building, also known as Erwin Square, is a historic textile mill complex located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The mill was built in 1892, and is a two-story, 748 feet long, brick building. It features three square towers projecting from the east facade and by hundreds of large and closely spaced windows. The building exemplifies "slow burn" construction with its exterior load bearing brick walls and its heavy timber heart pine beams and columns. The headquarters building is a Late Victorian style brick building built in 1892 and enlarged in 1896 and 1905. Attached to the headquarters building is a warehouse. In 1983–1984, the complex was renovated as offices and apartments.
Arista Cotton Mill Complex, also known as Salem Cotton Manufacturing Company and Arista Cotton Mill and Lentz Transfer & Storage Co., is a historic cotton mill complex located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The complex includes two buildings: a brick building built in 1836 by part of the Moravian congregation of Salem and the original home of the Salem Cotton Manufacturing Company, and the other is the original Arista Mill, built in 1880 by F. and H. Fries Cotton Arista Mills. The 1836 Salem Cotton Mill is a three-story, brick building with a monitor roof. The 1880 mill is a three-story brick building, 14 bays long, with bracketed eaves with timber supports. A two-story roughly triangular brick building was added about 1900. The 1836 building has been converted to a hotel known as The Historic Brookstown Inn.
P.H. Hanes Knitting Company is a historic textile mill complex located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The complex includes three buildings. The Knitting Building or North Building was built in 1920–1921, and is a six-story, Beaux-Arts style concrete and steel building sheathed in brick. The Mill Building or East Building was built in 1928, and is a five-story-plus-basement building of concrete, brick, and steel construction. The Warehouse and Shipping Building was built in 1940, and is a six-story steel frame building sheathed in brick. The P.H. Hanes Knitting Company was founded in 1901 by Pleasant H. Hanes, brother of John W. Hanes who founded Shamrock Mills, later Hanes Hosiery. In February 1965, P. H. Hanes Knitting Company merged with Hanes Hosiery. The downtown mill complex closed in 1965. The complex has been converted to loft apartments.
Oakdale Cotton Mill Village is a historic textile mill, mill village, and national historic district located at Jamestown, Guilford County, North Carolina, United States. The district encompasses 37 contributing buildings including the Logan Manufacturing Company complex built during the 1880s and 33 frame mill worker houses dated to the early-20th century. The factory complex consists of a three-story rectangular brick office, a one and two-story L-shaped brick factory with a four-story tower and five one-story brick warehouses, a small one-story board-and-batten blacksmith shop, and a polygonal brick smokestack.
Eureka Manufacturing Company Cotton Mill, also known as Tait Yarn Company and Lincoln Bonded Warehouse Company, is a historic cotton mill located at Lincolnton, Lincoln County, North Carolina. It was built between 1907 and 1910, and is a two-story, brick factory building with a three-story stair tower. Adjacent to the factory is a two-story brick office building built between 1902 and 1906. The buildings housed the Eureka Manufacturing Company from 1906 to 1937, and Tait Yarn Company from 1949 to 1966. Lincoln Bonded Warehouse occupied the buildings into the late-1990s. The buildings are owned by the Lincoln County Historical Association.
Capitola Manufacturing Company Cotton Yarn Mill, also known as the Marshall Mill and Power Company, is a historic cotton mill complex located at Marshall, Madison County, North Carolina. The main mill building is a three-story brick building built about 1905. It was raised to three stories in 1928. It measures approximately 108 feet (33 m) by 116 feet (35 m), with a low-pitched gabled roof, and windows on three sides. Also on the property is a contributing boiler house and water tank.
Savona Mill, also known as Savona Manufacturing Company, Alfred Cotton Mill, and Old Dominion Box Company, is a historic textile mill located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The building consists of four sections, three of which are historic. They are the 1915-1916 Weave Mill, a one-story rectangular brick building with segmental arched head windows, a low gable roof with exposed beam ends and a wood clerestory monitor roof; the 1921 Spinning Mill, a three-story rectangular brick building with large rectangular steel windows; and the 1951 three-story Paper Warehouse addition. The Weave Mill was designed by Lockwood, Greene & Co.; Richard C. Biberstein designed the Spinning Mill.
Bellevue Manufacturing Company is a historic textile mill complex located at Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina. The main mill was built about 1909, and is a two-story, side-gabled brick building, with a one-story boiler room and engine room wing. It is representative of slow-burn heavy timber construction. A one-story brick weaving room with monitor roof was built parallel to the main mill in 1920. In 1923, the wing was raised to two stories and an addition built to connect to the weaving room forming a "U"-shaped complex. The center of the "U" was filled in during the 1960s. Also in 1923, a separate two-story cloth building was constructed.
Falls of the Neuse Manufacturing Company, also known as the Manteo Manufacturing Company and Forest Manufacturing Company, is a historic paper mill complex located at Falls, Wake County, North Carolina. The main mill building was built in 1854–1855, and is a three-story, quarried granite block building measuring 195 feet long and 54 feet wide. Located on the property is the stone mill dam, measuring about 400 feet wide and roughly 6 feet tall, and the one-story picker room, measuring 53 feet square. The mill operated as a paper mill until 1896, and later housed a cotton mill and warehouse.
The Bellows Falls Co-operative Creamery Complex is a historic industrial property in Bellows Falls, Vermont. Developed over a period of about 40 years beginning c. 1906, the complex, with two surviving buildings, it represents one of Vermont's largest commercial enterprises of the period. The property, located on the eastern side of Bellows Falls Island, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
The American Spinning Company Mill No. 2 is a historic mill complex at 300 Hammett Street, in a pocket of unincorporated Greenville County, South Carolina surrounded on three sides by the city of Greenville. It is a five-story brick building, to which a number of warehouse buildings and other additions were made. It was built in 1901-02, as part of a major expansion to the American Spinning Company's Mill No. 1, which originally stood just south of Hammett Street. It was built by Oscar Sampson, a Boston textile manufacturer to a design by the industrial design firm Lockwood and Greene, and is one of thirteen early 20th-century mills surviving in the Greenville area. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. Its major tenant now is the Victor Mill Company, a furniture maker.
The Iowa Wind Mill and Pump Company Office and Warehouse, also known as Iowa Pipe and Supply Company, Cedar Rapids Presort, and the Mott Building, is a historic building located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States. This is the only extant building of a complex of buildings along the Cedar River used by the Iowa Wind Mill and Pump Company. The three-story structure is a simplified version of Victorian architecture. The thick brick walls were a form of fire protection and insulation, while the heavy timber for the interior support structure created large open space that was required to house industrial equipment, production activities, and warehouse storage. The tall windows allowed for interior lighting and ventilation. The first floor provided finished space used for offices. Iowa Wind Mill and Pump Company began as a branch of the Kendallville, Indiana based Flint & Walling Manufacturing Company around 1890. They began building their complex of buildings along the Cedar River and the tracks of the Chicago and North Western Railroad the following year. This building was completed in 1902. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
The Western Knitting Mills is a former industrial building located at 400 Water Street in Rochester, Michigan. The building has been renovated to serve commercial tenants, including Rochester Mills Beer Company. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
