Minnesota Sinfonia is a professional non-profit orchestra in the U.S. state of Minnesota, founded in 1989 by artistic director Jay Fishman. The Minnesota Sinfonia is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization supported by corporate, foundation and individual contributors which performs for over 25,000 people each year.
Music in the Schools (MIS) [1] is the Sinfonia's inner-city education program. The orchestra develops a three-month curriculum with local teachers, focusing on a different core subject each year. Music in the Schools [2] is designed specifically for public elementary students of Minneapolis and St. Paul with limited in-school arts opportunities, and the orchestra works with up to 12,000 elementary school students.
The culmination of each Music in the Schools program is "Sinfonia Day", a visit from the entire Minnesota Sinfonia to each participating school.
The Young Artist Competition [3] is an annual competition for musicians up to age 19. The competition is held every spring for residents of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin. Both the junior and senior division winners are awarded solo appearances with the Sinfonia, and the senior division winner also receives the Claire Givens Violins $500 cash prize. The competition is held at the University of St. Thomas campus in St. Paul.
During Youth Outreach Week, 25 young musicians experience a "week in the life" of a professional musician. Students participate in a week of intensive orchestra rehearsals, culminating in a joint concert with the Minnesota Sinfonia.
Junior Composers and alumni up to age 19 compose original compositions that will be part of the Sinfonia's Young Artists Week. The winning entry is performed at the orchestra's Summer Concert Series.
In 1989, conductor Jay Fishman created the Minnesota Sinfonia, a professional chamber orchestra to serve families, children, seniors, and those with limited incomes in Minnesota. Early on, the Sinfonia developed policies of free admission and children welcome to all performances.

The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) is a full-time professional chamber orchestra based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In collaboration with five Artistic Partners, the orchestra's musicians present more than 130 concerts and educational programs each year in over 14 venues throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. They are regularly heard on American Public Media's nationally syndicated radio programs "Performance Today" and SymphonyCast.
Shlomo Mintz is an Israeli violin virtuoso, violinist and conductor. He regularly appears with orchestras and conductors on the international scene and is heard in recitals and chamber music concerts around the world.
Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts is a Catholic arts high school located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Admission to the school is granted through an audition process. Serving students from grade 7 to 12, it is one of three schools in the Toronto Catholic District School Board that is an elementary and secondary hybrid. The school has been consistently ranked as one of the top educational institutions in Ontario.
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is an American symphony orchestra based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Baltimore SO has its principal residence at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, where it performs more than 130 concerts a year. In 2005, it began regular performances at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda.
The Florida Young Artists Orchestra, or FYAO, is a youth orchestra serving the Orlando, Florida region. The FYAO is led by Artistic Director Dr. Alvaro Gomez and Assistant Conductors Randall Love and Sherry Pollock. Until February 2010, the FYAO was led by founding Artistic Director Jonathan May. The FYAO currently rehearses at the Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, Florida.
Jonathan May was an American cellist and conductor. He resided in the Orlando, Florida area and was noted for founding and directing numerous youth orchestras and music programs throughout the region.
The San Jose Youth Symphony (SJYS) is a non-profit youth orchestra located in San Jose, California.
Minnesota Youth Symphonies, commonly referred to as MYS, was founded in 1972 by Ralph Winkler. The program has five orchestras composed of students from elementary level through high school, with participation's based on an annual audition. All levels of MYS perform at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, as well as other locations, and hosts workshops and classes.
Buffalo High School is located in Buffalo, Minnesota, Minnesota, United States off the intersection of County Road 35 and Dague Avenue. There are three communities that contribute students: Buffalo, Minnesota, Hanover, Minnesota, and Montrose, Minnesota, which has helped BHS grow into a large school of 2,145 students starting in the 2022-23 school year, with a staff of approximately 400.
California Youth Symphony (CYS) is a San Francisco Bay Area symphony orchestra for young musicians of high school age and younger. It was founded in 1952 by Aaron Sten and in 1963 became the first United States youth orchestra to tour abroad, performing twelve concerts in Japan, including a joint concert with Tokyo Junior Orchestra Society. Since then, the orchestra has toured Mexico, Australia, Uruguay, Argentina and several countries in Europe and Asia. In 1994, the orchestra placed first in the International Youth and Music Festival Competition in Vienna. The orchestra has also collaborated with youth orchestras in Japan and in Switzerland. During the summer of 2014, the orchestra is touring in Eastern Europe, and will perform in Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, and the Czech Republic. Leo Eylar has been musical director since 1990.
Sergei Polusmiak born in 1951 in Kharkiv, Ukraine is a Ukrainian Pianist "Merited Artist of Ukraine". He graduated from Kharkiv Music College in 1969 and from Kharkiv Conservatory in 1975, where he studied with Regina Horowitz, sister of Vladimir Horowitz. in 1978 he received the Post Graduate Diploma at Kiev Conservatory, Ukraine and in 1981 completed Advanced Studies at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Russia. From 1975 to 1998 Sergei Polusmiak was teaching at Kharkiv Conservatory and at the Kharkiv Special Music School for Gifted Children Sergei Polusmiak started his professional career as a music educator and as a concert pianist by teaching, giving master classes, playing solo piano recitals, chamber music recitals and as a soloist with symphony orchestras. For his contribution as a concert pianist Sergei Polusmiak was awarded the title of "Merited Artist of Ukraine" by the President of Ukraine. in 1996 Sergei Polusmiak became a Full Professor of piano at Kharkiv Institute of Arts.
The New Haven Symphony Orchestra is an American symphony orchestra based in New Haven, Connecticut. The New Haven Symphony Orchestra gave its first concert on January 25, 1894 and is the fourth oldest orchestra in the United States. Today, the orchestra is made up of over 65 professionals, many of whom live and work in the Greater New Haven area. The NHSO is currently directed by Music Director Alasdair Neale.
The Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies (GTCYS) is a group of youth orchestras in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Founded in 1972, GTCYS has served over 16,000 musicians and put on more than 500 concerts. The top orchestra has also traveled on 12 national and international tours. GTCYS currently features 10 orchestras for young musicians any age through high school.
The Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) is the national youth orchestra of Singapore. It is recognised by the Ministry of Education as a National Project of Excellence and a key development programme for talented young musicians. Since 1 January 2016, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has assumed management and operational responsibility for the SNYO, taking over the reins from the Ministry of Education.

Britten Sinfonia is a chamber orchestra ensemble based in Cambridge, UK. It was created in 1992, following an initiative from Eastern Arts and a number of key figures including Nicholas Cleobury, who recognised the need for an orchestra in the East of England. It is a flexible ensemble composed of chamber musicians in Europe. The players are freelance musicians who are employed on a project-by-project basis and the ensemble performs around 70 concerts per year and works with hundreds of people in the communities where the orchestra is resident.
Axel Theimer is a conductor, composer, singer, author and professor at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University (CSB/SJU) in Minnesota. He conducts the professional a cappella choir Kantorei, the National Catholic Youth Choir and the Amadeus Chamber Symphony, and as of 2020 is in his 52nd year as a music faculty member at CSB/SJU, where he conducts CSB/SJU Chamber Choir and the SJU Men's Chorus. He is on the faculty and is executive director of the VoiceCare Network. He is an acknowledged expert on healthy vocal production for solo and choral singing, and the effect of conducting gesture on vocalists and instrumentalists. His choirs are known and praised for their particularly warm, natural, expressive and efficient sound.
The Sphinx Organization is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of young Black and Latino classical musicians. Based in Detroit, Michigan, it was founded by the American violinist Aaron Dworkin. The Sphinx was chosen to represent this organization because of what it symbolizes: "the power, wisdom and persistence" that the organization hopes to instill in its participants.
The Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra (LMSO) is an American symphony orchestra based in Columbia, South Carolina.
