Northallerton is a market town and civil parish near the River Wiske, North Yorkshire, England. It is an administrative centre of the North Yorkshire District and has served as the county town of the North Riding of Yorkshire from 1889 to 1974 and of North Yorkshire from 1974 to 2023. The town lies in the Vale of Mowbray and at the northern end of the Vale of York. It had a population of 16,832 in the 2011 census, an increase from 15,741 in 2001. Northallerton is made up of four wards: North, Broomfield, Romanby and Central.

The parent company was awarded a Community Radio broadcast license by Ofcom in 2014 and launched at 10:35 am on Saturday 30 July 2016 (the time 10:35 was chosen to reflect the station's FM frequency. Following an online social media poll the first track played was 'The Boys Are Back in Town' by Thin Lizzy.

It is not possible therefore to listen to a station branded "Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire".
YO1 Radio is a community radio station based in York, England. It broadcasts local news, weather, travel and information alongside music from the 1980s to the present day. It broadcasts to the city of York on 102.8 FM, in Selby on 90.0 FM with transmissions in the surrounding parts of North Yorkshire on DAB+. It takes its name from a district of the YO postcode area covering central York.
