Miranda Meeks is an American illustrator and digital artist.

Her work, mostly digital, has been described as "soft and detailed with a touch of mystery," "haunting atmosphere," and "a dark, haunting aesthetic". [1]

Career

Meeks studied art and illustration at Brigham Young University (BYU) and attributes some of her inspiration and style to Alfred Hitchcock and Chris Van Allsburg. [2] She explains her style, "Not only is my work defined by the subjects it portrays, but I try really hard to represent certain values and ideals in it. There’s this juxtaposition of beauty and strangeness that I find really intriguing and I’d love to help others who see my work to feel the same thing." [3]

Meeks' work has been seen in editorial, concept art, video game art, and t-shirt designs. [4] Clients include HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Tor Books. Meeks created cover art for James Patterson’s Maximum Ride series. [5] She has been commissioned to create art for Magic: The Gathering. [6]

In 2021, she was commissioned to create the art for Neil Gaiman's The Monarch of the Glen and Black Dog vinyl edition box set. [7] Her work has been included in numerous exhibits, art shows, and online collections. [8] [9]

Meeks received the 2018 Rising Star Award, American Illustration Award, Society of Illustrations 2013 Student Competition, and was nominated for the 2017 and 2018 Chesley Awards. [10] [11]

Personal life

She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lives in Utah with her husband and two children. [12]

Jessie Willcox Smith was an American illustrator during the Golden Age of American illustration. She was considered "one of the greatest pure illustrators". A contributor to books and magazines during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Smith illustrated stories and articles for clients such as Century, Collier's, Leslie's Weekly, Harper's, McClure's, Scribners, and the Ladies' Home Journal. She had an ongoing relationship with Good Housekeeping, which included a long-running Mother Goose series of illustrations and also the creation of all of the Good Housekeeping covers from December 1917 to 1933. Among the more than 60 books that Smith illustrated were Louisa May Alcott's Little Women and An Old-Fashioned Girl, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Evangeline, and Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses.

Cliff Nielsen is an American book illustrator and comic book artist. The Internet Speculative Fiction Database credits him with cover art for about 500 book and magazine covers published since 1994 Nielsen is best known for his work on projects such as Star Wars, The X-Files, Chronicles of Narnia among many projects including advertising campaigns, designs, and magazines. His illustrations have been recognized for their excellence by the Society of Illustrators, Print, and Spectrum among others. Feature articles focusing on his work appear in design publications and fanzine magazines. Nielsen has been an international speaker on digital art and has served as a judge for the Society of Illustrators and a variety of professional illustration award programs. He lives in Los Angeles, California.

Alice R. Tangerini is an American botanical illustrator. In 1972, Tangerini was hired as a staff illustrator for the Department of Botany at the National Museum of Natural History by American botanist Lyman Bradford Smith.
