Mirpur DOHS [1] is a Neighbourhood of Dhaka North, situated in Mirpur Thana of Dhaka City. [2] The area is under the jurisdiction of Pallabi Thana Police Station. [3] [4]

The area is governed by Mirpur DOHS (Defence Officers' Housing Scheme) parishad. It is the largest in the country with a total of 1290 individual lots. [6] The Government of Bangladesh allocated 37 lots to the relatives of 37 officers killed in the 2009 Bangladesh Rifles Mutiny and an additional 20 apartments were allocated to ten families, 2 each. [7] [8] In 2015, Bangladesh Police busted a human trafficking ring based in Mirpur DOHS, rescuing 46 victims. [9] Mirpur DOHS Porishod is the Security Force of Mirpur DOHS, it has about a few hundred members.

Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ মেরিটাইম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) was established in 2013, the 37th public university of the country. It is the first maritime university in Bangladesh, the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th maritime university in the world. It has issued its first calls for admission in December, 2016. The BSc in Oceanography program was started on 3 January 2017 at the university's temporary campus in Mirpur, as part of the first-ever launch of the Bachelor class in the university. Then in 2018, the first batch of BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering classes started. Two more program classes started in 2019. LLB in Maritime Law and BBA in Port Management and Logistics. 2020 BSc in Maritime Fisheries first batch admission and classes start.

The term is ambiguous, as it may refer either to upscale and/or planned neighbourhoods with wider streets, modern buildings, and improved facilities, or to the city of Dhaka excluding the Old Dhaka region.
