Tarik Ali Mishlawi, known by his stage name Mishlawi, is an American hip-hop performing artist, who grew up in Portugal. Dubbed as "Portuguese Hip Hop's revelation" by La Vanguardia, [1] and commonly referred to as a "TransAtlantic talent", [2] Mishlawi started his musical career on YouTube, before he was discovered by Richie Campbell and subsequently signed to Bridgetown Records, and later by Universal music and Island records. Personal life

Tarik Ali Mishlawi was born in the United States, [12] but moved to Cascais, Portugal, on the Portuguese Riviera. [13] He attended the Carlucci American International School of Lisbon until graduating high school, [14] after which he attended American University, in Washington, DC, for two years, before attending the Point Blank Music School in London. [15]

Super Bock Super Rock is a music festival in Portugal that takes place annually since 1995. It is organized by the Portuguese live entertainment company Música no Coração and is named after its main sponsor, the beer brand Super Bock.

Balla (musician) is the musical alter-ego of Portuguese musician and record producer Armando Teixeira (musician). Balla's music references the sound and style of Serge Gainsbourg and Jaques Brel, combined with hip hop and cut-and-paste references drawn from his time as DJ and producer with both Bizarra Locomotiva and the platinum selling Da Weasel. The arrangements have been described as "reflecting a taste for sound composers like Barry Adamson". Armando Teixeira is recognized as a composer, musician and producer of note within Portugal, and his 2006 studio album A Grande Mentira has been described by Portuguese public radio station Antena 3 as "pop, electronica, eroticism and fury". "In this space, I have adopted the solitary writing of a Nick Cave or Iggy Pop" Balla has said of his own work. When asked if Balla was the summary of his years spent in Bizarra Locomotiva or Da Weasel, he responded "Probably, yes... Any of these bands were very closed, while Balla represents freedom. I am able to experiment a lot. Here there is a little bit of everything that I have done."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Buraka Som Sistema</span>

Buraka Som Sistema was an electronic dance music project from Portugal, specializing in a fusion of techno beats with the African zouk and kuduro genre. It is generally credited with creating the "zouk bass" and "progressive kuduro" variant and has received an MTV European Music Award. In 2015 Buraka Som Sistema said they would be taking an hiatus starting in 2016, and on July 1st 2016 they performed live for the last time in Lisbon.

Dealema is a long-running Portuguese hip-hop group based in Porto. Along with Mind Da Gap, they are one of the oldest hip-hop bands in Portugal and had major influence over the genre's development across the country. Their early influences included Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, and Nas. Dealema has been performing with the same lineup of Mundo, DJ Guze, Fuse, Expeão, and Maze since forming in 1996.
