Johan Bengtsson (born 1980), known under his stage name Mitch Murder, is a Swedish electronic musician from Stockholm, known as one of the many artists that popularized the synthwave genre. [1] [2] [3] [4] His first EP, After Hours, was released in 2009, followed by Current Events and Burning Chrome on Rosso Corsa Records in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Influences and style

Bengtsson explained in an interview on his inspirations being "jazz, cheesy 1950s bossa nova, 1970s motown or 1980s pop", and mentioned Paul Hardcastle, Jan Hammer, and Vince DiCola as examples. [5] His primary software for music is the tracker program Renoise. [6]

Collaboration

In 2013, he was contacted by director David Sandberg regarding his film project Kung Fury , [7] where he would compose the majority of the music. [8] Prior to the movie's release, he collaborated with David Hasselhoff for the single True Survivor. [9] [10] Both the single's music video and the movie went viral upon their releases, gaining considerable acclaim. [11] [12] In 2014, he released his third album Interceptor on Mad Decent. [13] [14]

He is a co-creator and lead member of the electronic dancehall music project Major Lazer; a member of the supergroup LSD, with Labrinth and Sia; a member of electronic duo Jack Ü, with producer and DJ Skrillex; and a member of Silk City, with Mark Ronson. He founded the record company Mad Decent in 2006, as well as the non-profit organization Heaps Decent the following year. Alex Karlinsky is an Israeli record producer of synthwave music. Having been raised in the 1980s, Karlinsky says Highway Superstar is his attempt to recreate musical elements from the period, while combining them with modern production techniques and soundscapes. After several internet singles between 2012 and 2013, a full album was released via the USA/Canadian label Rosso Corsa Records. His track "Careful Shouting" was featured in the 2015 short film Kung Fury. A sophomore album titled Endgame was released in 2015. The 2015 album by The Fading features Karlinsky's synth playing.

He later released three additional studio albums, Leather Teeth (2018), Blood Machines OST (2020) and Leather Terror (2022), along with one live album, CarpenterBrutLive (2017). Kung Fury 2 is an upcoming martial arts comedy film directed by David Sandberg, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Tyler Burton Smith. It is set to be a sequel to the 2015 featurette Kung Fury. Sandberg also stars in the title role, along with Michael Fassbender, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alexandra Shipp, Ralf Moeller, Jorma Taccone, and David Hasselhoff.
