Mo Harawe (born 1992) is a Somali-Austrian filmmaker. His debut feature film, The Village Next to Paradise , was selected for the Un Certain Regard section of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. [2]
Harawe was born in Mogadishu and attended art school in Somalia. [1] He later studied visual communication and film at Kunsthochschule Kassel. [2]
In 2009, Harawe moved to Austria and began a career in the film industry. [1] He released a string of short films throughout the 2010s and early 2020s. His 2024 debut feature-length project, The Village Next to Paradise , was selected to screen at that year's Cannes Film Festival. [2]

Cristi Puiu is a Romanian film director and screenwriter. With Anca Puiu and Alex Munteanu, in 2004 he founded a cinema production company, naming it Mandragora.

For the latter, he won the Golden Bear at the 2020 Berlin Film Festival.

The 68th Cannes Film Festival was held from 13 to 24 May 2015. Ethan Coen and Joel Coen were the Co-Presidents of the Jury for the main competition. It was the first time that two people chaired the jury. Since the Coen brothers each received a separate vote, they were joined by seven other jurors to form the customary nine-juror panel. French actor Lambert Wilson was the host for the opening and closing ceremonies. The Official Selection of films for the 2015 festival, including the line-up for the Main Competition, was announced on 16 April 2015.

Óliver Laxe Coro is a French-born Spanish film director, screenwriter and actor of Galician ancestry. His debut feature film You All Are Captains premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. His third film Fire Will Come was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize.

Spanish film director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar was the president of the jury for the festival and Italian actress Monica Bellucci hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. Ismael's Ghosts, directed by French director Arnaud Desplechin, was the opening film for the festival.

The 75th annual Cannes Film Festival is a film festival that took place from 17 to 28 May 2022. The festival featured a tribute to actor Tom Cruise, whose film Top Gun: Maverick premiered at the festival and where the actor was awarded an Honorary Palme d'Or on short notice. The official poster for the festival was designed as a homage to The Truman Show (1998).
The Village Next to Paradise is a 2024 drama film written and directed by Mo Harawe in his feature-length debut. Starring Ahmed Ali Farah, Ahmed Mohamud Saleban, and Anab Ahmed Ibrahim as a family in turmoil, The Village Next to Paradise was the first Somali film to be featured in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival.
