Mobile Backstage is an application developed by Steam Republic. It provides a fan club service and can be accessed on the web, Facebook or mobile devices. [1] [2]
The Mobile Backstage platform allows music artists and their fans to interact and share experiences with each other more accessibly. [3] It includes a content management system, which enables artists or their production companies to post up-to-date information about a band's activities. These posts can include text, images, or video clips, while being able to integrate with Twitter, Facebook, and iTunes. [4] This app also provides the band with analytics on fan activities and events. [5] [6]
In January 2007, two Finnish companies, Mobile Backstage and Geniem, won the FinNode Web-2-Mobile competition with their idea of creating a mobile app that could connect famous artists to their fans more easily. [7] [8] Development of the app began after the founding of the company Steam Republic by Paavo Bäckman and Jussi Ruusila, which was officially registered in November 2009 in Tampere, Finland. [9] In early 2012, the company closed a bridge funding round of $1.3 million (€1 million). [10] Wired Magazine UK listed Steam Republic in their article titled "Europe’s 100 Hottest Startups of 2012." [11]
The Mobile Backstage app was originally developed for iOS. A Facebook version was announced in June 2011, [12] followed closely by an Android one in November 2011 [13] and a web version in January 2012. [14] Nokia's MeeGo and QT platforms were also supported until June 2012, when Evanescence announced their Mobile Backstage, but most following artists have stopped offering this option. Some of the artists with their own Mobile Backstage in August 2012 include Evanescence, [18] Anthrax, Mumford & Sons, Slightly Stoopid, Nightwish, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Amorphis, The Kooks, Black Label Society, Lykke Li, Rusko, Rebelution, Ensiferum and Johnny Reid. [15] [16] [17] [19]

It offers streaming services in over 180 countries and features a catalog of more than 90 million licensed tracks, making it one of the largest streaming platforms available. Deezer is available on various devices, including Android, iOS, macOS and others.
Snaptu pronounced "snap tu", previously known as Moblica was a free Israeli-made mobile application platform that ran on virtually every type of Internet-enabled mobile phone. It allowed the user to access popular services, varying from social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, ESPN CricInfo and Picasa to entertainment news, blogs, sports and local guides.
BandPage was a music startup based in San Francisco, California that produced the application BandPage, which powered over 500,000 artists' Facebook Pages. Artists could upload and share tracks, videos, photos, and their touring schedule within Facebook. In August 2010, Billboard named BandPage one of the "Top 10 Best Digital Media Startups".
BlueStacks is a chain of cloud-based cross-platform products developed by the San Francisco-based company of the same name. The BlueStacks App Player enables the execution of Android applications on computers running Microsoft Windows or macOS.
Bandsintown is a music website that allows users to receive notifications about tours and bands playing in the user's area. It also has tools for artists to manage tour dates.
Talkbits was a free voice mobile app for iOS and Android that combined push-to-talk technology with social discovery. The application has been developed and maintained by OnAir Labs, an internationalArchived 2013-01-11 at the Wayback Machine mobile development company. As of December 2013, the Talkbits service is not available anymore.
Sketchfab is a 3D asset website used to publish, share, discover, buy and sell 3D, VR and AR content. It provides a viewer based on the WebGL and WebXR technologies that allows users to display 3D models on the web, to be viewed on any mobile browser, desktop browser or Virtual Reality headset.
Appcelerator is a privately held mobile technology company based in San Jose, California. Its main products are Titanium, an open-source software development kit for cross-platform mobile development, and the Appcelerator Platform.
Testdroid is a set of mobile software development and testing products by Bitbar Technologies Limited.
WillCall was a San Francisco-based startup company offering a mobile app for iPhone and Android devices that allowed users to gain admission to live concerts, tip artists, and purchase merchandise during a show. It was named one of the Hottest Startups of 2013 by Forbes. Since its inception, the company had become known for editorial curation, a UX driven product strategy, and social networking integration. It had been called "an Uber for nightlife — one that makes everything from attending shows to buying drinks and merchandise much easier," by TechCrunch.
Zettle by PayPal is a Swedish financial technology company founded by Jacob de Geer and Magnus Nilsson in April 2010. Launching its first app and service in 2011, the company offers a range of financial products including payments, point of sales, funding and partners applications. The company was acquired by PayPal in 2018.
Wanelo is an e-commerce company headquartered in San Francisco’s SoMa district. It was founded in 2012 by Deena Varshavskaya.
AlterGeo, formerly known as Wi2Geo, is a Russian IT company specializing in the development of a global hybrid positioning system which combines Wi-Fi, WiMAX, GSM, GPS, LTE, IP address and network environment approaches. It also created cross-platform location-based services Gvidi and AlterGeo, and hyperlocal banner ad system Local Hero.
23snaps Ltd.is a free, private social network and photos, videos, measurements and stories of their children to a digital journal and privately share those updates with other family members or close friends. 23snaps is available online and on mobile devices and launched 1 June 2012.
Hugo Barra is a Brazilian computer scientist, technology executive and entrepreneur. From 2008 to 2013, he worked in a number of product management roles at Google, including vice president and product spokesperson of its Android division. From 2013 to 2017, he worked at Xiaomi as vice president of global operations. From 2017 to 2021, he worked as vice president of Virtual Reality and head of the Oculus division at Meta Platforms. In May 2021, he left Meta to join health technology startup Detect as CEO.
Sunrise is a discontinued electronic calendar application for mobile and desktop. The service was launched in 2013 by designers Pierre Valade and Jeremy Le Van. In October 2015, Microsoft announced that they had merged the Sunrise Calendar team into the larger Microsoft Outlook team where they will work closely with the Microsoft Outlook Mobile service.
Onavo, Inc. was an Israeli mobile web analytics company that was purchased by Facebook, Inc., who changed the company's name to Facebook Israel. The company primarily performed its activities via consumer mobile apps, including the virtual private network (VPN) service Onavo Protect, which analysed web traffic sent through the VPN to provide statistics on the usage of other apps.
YPlan was a mobile-first event discovery and booking service, which was co-founded by Viktoras Jucikas and Rytis Vitkauskas in London, United Kingdom in 2012. Users are presented with a curated list of things to do, including last-minute events, which can be booked direct on the app or via the website.
