Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamed Lemine (born in 1952) is a Mauritanian politician. [3]
Born in the Hodh El Gharbi region,Ould Mohamed Lemine graduated from the University of Cairo with a diploma in economics and has worked as a professor at the University of Nouakchott.
He served as Minister of Defense under Prime Minister's Zeine Ould Zeidane and Yahya Ould Ahmed El Waghef until the August 2008 coup which overthrew President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi and created a new government with Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf as Prime Minister. [4] [5]
Lemine was the President of the Union for the Republic party from 2009 to 2019. [6] [7]
The Oulad Bou Sbaa is an Arab Chorfa/Zaouia tribe,who claim descent from Abu Sib'a,the Idrissid 16th century Tribal Chief. They live in Morocco,Western Sahara and Mauritania,with members of the tribe holding different nationalities depending on their residence and upbringings. In the 19th and 20th century,the tribe's influence in its core areas of southern Spanish Sahara was diminished and permanently weakened following heavy defeat in bloody battles against the Reguibat tribal Confederations,which were then rapidly asserting their influence over these areas. Speakers of Hassaniya Arabic,they were nomadic (Bedouin) and herded camels in today's Western Sahara and Mauritania.

The raid on Nouakchott in June 1976 was a significant military operation carried out by the Polisario Front,a Western Saharan guerrilla group,against the Mauritanian capital,Nouakchott. Led by their leader El-Ouali Mustapha Sayed,the Polisario forces aimed to overthrow the regime of President Moktar Ould Daddah.
