The Islamic Consultative Assembly, also called the Iranian Parliament, the Iranian Majles, is the national legislative body of Iran. The Parliament currently has 290 representatives, changed from the previous 272 seats since the 18 February 2000 election. The most recent election took place on 26 February 2016 and the new parliament was opened on 28 May 2016.

Formerly one of the parties aligned with the Combatant Clergy Association, it is close to the Islamic Coalition Party, whose decisions they mostly follow. He was previously Vice President of Iran and head of Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization. He is the former member of City Council of Tehran and Governor of Gilan Province. He was previously deputy head of Physical Education Organization and Hassan Rouhani's candidate for Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, a nomination that rejected by the parliament. In October 2016, he was again nominated for the position and was approved by the new parliament. He is a member of National Trust Party, as well as Moderation and Development Party.
