World Association of Kickboxing Organizations

The World Association of Kickboxing Organizations is an international organization of kickboxing. The governing body of amateur kickboxing certified by WAKO is created to develop support and govern at an amateur level In addition to holding world championship events, WAKO sanctions the champions of kickboxing. WAKO is the only organisation worldwide that is recognised by the GAISF and the IOC.

W.A.K.O. European Championships 1981

W.A.K.O. European Championships 1981 were the fifth European kickboxing championships hosted by the W.A.K.O. organization organized by one of the pioneers of Irish kickboxing George Canning. The championships were open to amateur men based in Europe only although each country was allowed more than one competitor per weight division, with the styles on offer being Full-Contact and Semi-Contact kickboxing. By the end of the competition regular leaders West Germany were the top nation with the largest number of medals, with Great Britain in second and Italy third. The event was held in 1981 in Dublin, Ireland.

The men's bantamweight Low-Kick division at the W.A.K.O. European Championships 2004 in Budva was the second lightest of the male Low-Kick tournaments and involved five fighters. Each of the matches was three rounds of two minutes each and were fought under Low-Kick kickboxing rules.

Therese Gunnarsson Swedish Muay Thai fighter

Therese Gunnarsson, nicknamed "The Gun", is a Swedish professional Muay Thai fighter. She started training kickboxing in 2004, but switched to Muay Thai in 2010. She has won both the WAKO Pro title, and the world amateur kickboxing championship. She is the first and only Swedish fighter to accomplish this.

Alexander Oleinik (kickboxer)

Alexander Oleinik is a Ukrainian professional Kickboxing and Muay Thai fighter who competes in the middleweight, light heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions. He has begun practicing Kyokushin Karate in early childhood at the age of six. Shortly he became a Ukrainian champion in the youth division. At the age of 17 he started practicing Muay Thai.

Kickboxing at the 2017 World Games

The kickboxing event at the World Games 2017 was held at the Orbita Hall in Poland. For the first time, Kickboxing was included in the World Games 2017 as an invitational sport.

Astemir Borsov is a Russian kickboxer. He is the former Glory of Heroes Junior Bantamweight champion and the current WAKO World K1 Featherweight champion. He is currently signed with ONE Championship.

Monika Chochlikova

Monika Chochlíková is a Slovak professional Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer. She won a gold medal in the WAKO world championships in 2019, is the first Slovak fighter ever to win the WAKO European championships and IFMA European championships, in 2021 she won WMC World Muaythai Title as first female fighter in Slovakia and in December 2021 she won gold on I.F.M.A. World Champinship in Muaythai after 4 wins in Female Elite -51 kg as first slovak fighter ever..
