Moneen (sometimes stylised as .moneen.) is a Canadian indie rock band from Brampton, Ontario.
Moneen formed in 1999 after the dissolution of another band, called Perfectly Normal. [1] The founding members were singer/guitarist Kenny Bridges, bassist Mark Bowser, drummer Peter Krpan and singer/guitarist Chris Hughes.
The band recorded their first EP Smaller Chairs for the Early 1900s in Kenny's basement. They then re-released it on Smallman Records with their second album "The Theory of Harmonial Value", the band's next release was Are We Really Happy with Who We Are Right Now in 2003. The album appeared on the !earshot National Top 50 chart in August, 2003. [2]
Bowser was replaced by Chris Slorach (Nu Chris), who left the band after the release of The Theory of Harmonial Value . [3] Erik Hughes (who played bass for the band on their first Canadian tour) later became the permanent bass player for the band.
In 2003 the band's lineup was Bridges, Krpan, and Chris and Erik Hughes. That year they performed in Austin. [4]
Moneen later signed to Vagrant Records. [5] Smallman Records still distributes their albums in Canada. In 2005 they released a split EP with friends Alexisonfire on Dine Alone Records, on which each band covered two of the other's songs, plus one original song.
In 2005, director Alex Liu followed the band through the recording process for The Red Tree , filming a documentary entitled The Start to This May Be the End to Another. The Red Tree was released on April 11, 2006, on CD and vinyl. The vinyl release of The Red Tree was limited to 300 copies. The band joined the 2006 Warped Tour to promote the album. [6] The documentary was released as part of The Moneen DVD: It All Started with a Red Stripe on May 13, 2008. [7] The DVD had been nominated for a Juno Award for Music DVD of The Year. [8]
In March 2008, Moneen parted ways with their drummer Peter Krpan, who decided to start a solo project named One Grand Canyon; the band recruited drummer Steve Nunnaro as a permanent replacement.
Moneen began recording their fourth studio album The World I Want to Leave Behind in December 2008; it was released September 15, 2009 with Dine Alone Records. [9] They released it on CD and vinyl. The vinyl release had a bonus track called "Dark & Ugly". [10] The band went on tour in the United States to support the album, including a stop in Los Angeles at the Troubadour. [11]
In 2010, Peter Krpan re-joined Moneen as the permanent drummer. The band opened for several dates on Alexisonfire's farewell tour in December 2012, [12] however the band had performed very little throughout 2012 and after 2013 were in hiatus. Krpan, along with Chris and Eric Hughes, formed a new band in 2013 named Seas, signed a deal with Black Box Music, [13] and went out on tour. Bridges joined a band called Cunter, worked as the guitar tech for The Sheepdogs, toured with Say Anything on guitar, and released an EP in August 2015 "Love and Hate".
In 2016, Moneen performed in Mississauga, Ontario at Cuchulainn's Irish Pub. [14]
In 2017 the band played a four-date tour leading up to the 10th anniversary of The Red Tree, held at Lee's Palace in Toronto. [15]
In January 2019, the band played three shows at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Are We Really Happy with Who We Are Right Now. [16] In April 2019, Alexisonfire announced that Moneen would be supporting then for one date in July 2019, describing Moneen as the "Siegfried to Alexisonfire’s Roy". [17]
In May 2023, Moneen announced an upcoming Canadian tour for the fall of 2023. The eight show tour is a 20th anniversary tour for Are We Really Happy With Who We Are Right Now and will be supported by Sparta who will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album Wiretap Scars. [18]
Alexisonfire is a Canadian post-hardcore band formed in St. Catharines, Ontario in 2001. The band's members are George Pettit (vocals), Dallas Green, Wade MacNeil, Chris Steele (bass) and Jordan Hastings. The band has won numerous awards, and in Canada their albums have all been certified either gold or platinum.
Dallas Michael John Albert Green is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and record producer who records under the name City and Colour. He is also known for his contributions as a singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. In 2005, he debuted his first full-length album, Sometimes, which achieved platinum certification in 2006. City and Colour began performing in small intimate venues between Alexisonfire tours. The name City and Colour comes from his own name: Dallas, a city, and Green, a colour. His reasoning for the name was that he felt uneasy "putting the album out under the name Dallas Green".
The Switcheroo Series: Alexisonfire vs. Moneen is an EP released by the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire and indie rock band Moneen. It has been the first of only two releases in the Switcheroo series from Dine Alone Records. In the United States, Moneen's label, Vagrant Records, released the split EP on November 22, 2005, but titled the release "Alexisonfire/Moneen Split", this was because The Switcheroo Series is an EP series by Dine Alone Records, not Vagrant Records. Nine months after the US release of the split EP, Alexisonfire released Crisis on Vagrant Records, after completing contract terms with former United States label Equal Vision Records.
Are We Really Happy With Who We Are Right Now? is the second full-length album by the rock band Moneen.
The Red Tree is the third full-length album by the rock band Moneen. There was also a documentary that chronicled the writing and recording of this album. A music video was released for If Tragedy’s Appealing, Then Disaster’s An Addiction, and it has had some play-time on MuchMusic and FUSE.
Black Lungs is a side project of Alexisonfire's guitarist and vocalist, and current Gallows frontman Wade MacNeil. MacNeil created the side project similar to his first punk rock band Plan 9, a more relaxed and melodic sound than Alexisonfire.
Cancer Bats are a Canadian hardcore punk band from Toronto, Ontario. To date, they have released seven studio albums and six extended plays; with their most recent LP, Psychic Jailbreak, having been released on 15 April 2022. The band is currently composed of lead vocalist Liam Cormier, drummer Mike Peters and bassist/guitarist Jaye R. Schwarzer. The band are also currently joined by touring guitarist Jackson Landry, following the departure of founding guitarist Scott Middleton in 2021. Cancer Bats take a wide variety of influences from heavy metal sub-genres and fuse them into hardcore and punk rock, and also include elements of Southern metal. Their sound has been likened to sludge metal, as well as to that of metalcore bands such as Converge and Hatebreed. The members of Cancer Bats have also toured and recorded as a Black Sabbath tribute band under the name Bat Sabbath.
Sylvie is a Canadian indie rock music group from Regina, Saskatchewan. It features singer/guitarist Joel Passmore, formerly of the now-disbanded Despistado, alongside bass player Riva Farrell Racette, guitarist Chris Notenboom, keyboardist Erin Passmore and drummer Jeff Romanyk. All band members also provide backing vocals.

Daggermouth is a Canadian pop punk band that was formed in 2004 in Vancouver. They started around early 2004 quickly building a solid reputation by touring with bands such as Moneen and SNFU. Their name is a reference to a robotic fish from the Family Guy episode "A Fish Out of Water".

The Moneen DVD: It All Started with a Red Stripe is the first official DVD released by Moneen, an Indie rock band based in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It was released in Canada and the United States on May 13, 2008. The DVD has four different sections: a documentary, a live performance, tour diaries and music videos.
Old Crows / Young Cardinals is the fourth studio album from Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire, released on June 23, 2009. The album was originally referred to by the shortened title of Young Cardinals, until the name change was announced on April 1, 2009.

Dog's Blood is an extended play by the Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. The EP was released on October 31, 2010. Dog's Blood is a collection of four experimental songs that are different-sounding from the band's previously released material. It was the band's penultimate release before their break up in 2011.
Jordan "Ratbeard" Hastings is a Canadian musician born in Hamilton, Ontario. He is best known as the drummer of Alexisonfire, having replaced their former drummer Jesse Ingelevics. Hastings was originally intended to be a temporary replacement, but then became a full member after two months, with his first album with the band being Crisis in 2006.
Death Letter is an extended play by the Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. The EP was released on December 4, 2012. Death Letter contains songs from their entire discography reworked for acoustic guitar. Of the six songs on the EP, 4 are from their last full-length album, Old Crows/Young Cardinals. It was the band's last release before their break up, and serves as an accompaniment to their farewell tour that took place in December 2012.
