Monica Toy is a Brazilian franchise and 2D animated series based on Monica's Gang comic books, and also a spin-off of the animated cartoon series of the same name. The series features the characters drawn in a chibi-like art style. The franchise debuted on 2013 in partnership with Mauricio de Sousa and the company Tok & Stok for the sale of products based on the characters (like cups and pillows), with a cartoon premiering on the official YouTube channel on May 23 of the same year. [1] [2] The cartoon also debuted on Cartoon Network in Brazil after a few months. [3]
Some apps and games for Android and iOS based on the characters the way they appear in Monica Toy were developed. In 2014 the game Tap Toy was released. [4] In 2015 the game Up Toy was released. [5] In 2018 an avatar creation app was released. [6]
Several short episodes are released on the official Monica's Gang YouTube channel since 2013 with each season having 26 episodes. The animation does not use dialogue, although all the sound effects are vocal sounds.
The episodes of the first three seasons are focused only on Monica (with Samson), Jimmy Five, Smudge and Maggy, with some rare appearances of Mauricio de Sousa and Blu since season two. The fourth season introduces the characters Chuck Billy, Zeke and Ma Megg from Chuck Billy 'n' Folks , and Vanilla the Cat. The fifth season introduces Fluffy, Thunder from Lionel's Kingdom , Bug-a-Booo, Skully and Vic Vampire from Bug-a-Booo , Horacio from Horacio's World , Bubbly the Astronaut and Pitheco, Tooga, Zoom and Boom from The Cavern Clan . The sixth season introduces Ant Rita from Lionel's Kingdom, Glu, Rosie Lee from Chuck Billy 'n' Folks, Franklin, Jeremiah, Chauvy the Pig and Ditto. The seventh season introduces Milena, Lorde Coelhão, Nutty Ned, Angel, McFox from Lionel's Kingdom, Sunny and Denise. The eighth season introduces Frank and Moe the Mummy from Bug-a-Booo .
The animation also shows some crossovers in certain episodes with characters like Red and Leonard from The Angry Birds Movie , [7] El Chavo del Ocho , El Chapulín Colorado , [8] Hello Kitty, Astro Boy, [9] D.Va and Lúcio from Overwatch , [10] plus some references to Marvel and DC Comics superheroes and Star Wars.
As of April 2023, The Monica Toy Shorts video, Monica Toy | Imitoys #shorts has 964 million views. Which is almost 1 billion views. Meaning Imitoys (shorts) is one of the most watched Monica Toy video.

Horacio's World is a Brazilian comic strip, part of the Monica and Friends comic strips. The main character is Horácio, a baby Tyrannosaurus rex, created in 1961. Other minor characters appear occasionally, but Horacio's strips mostly consist of monologues and self-reflections, thus making him Mauricios's alter-ego. Bug-a-Booo is a Brazilian comic strip, created in 1963 and part of the Monica's Gang series. All of the characters are monsters or other supernatural creatures, none of them being a human being. The main location for their stories is a cemetery. However, their stories are not intended to be scary, they are sometimes classified as “Terrir”, which is a Portmanteau of the Portuguese words "Terror" (horror) and "Rir" (to laugh). In some of the stories, they have to deal with the fact that vampires, ghosts, zombies and mummies are no longer appreciated as characters of horror films. People instead are opting for assassins, psychopaths, serial killers, etc.

Gibizinho was a title of a comic book created by Editora Globo that was published between 1991 and 1998, at first as a weekly magazine that often varied the character in each issue between characters by Mauricio de Sousa and other licensed characters who had comics published by Globo like the Mexican characters El Chavo del Ocho and El Chapulín Colorado or celebrities like Xuxa and Leandro & Leonardo. Starting in 1993, the title of the comic became monthly and started to focus only on Monica and Friends being renamed as Gibizinho da Mônica. Pelezinho is a Brazilian comic book series created by Mauricio de Sousa based on soccer star Pelé in his childhood. Cine Gibi is a Brazilian franchise of animated films and magazines based on the Monica and Friends comics by Mauricio de Sousa. The films revolve around a Franklin machine that reproduces comic books in movie format. The first, Cine Gibi, was released in 2004 after the appreciation of cinema in Brazil and was the only one in the series to be released in cinemas. In all, there are nine films in the franchise, and some films have spawned magazines with stories based on them. In general, Cine Gibi had a mixed reception.
