Moonlight is the debut release and extended play by American electropop project Candy Coded. It was released on iTunes and other media outlets on September 15, 2015. [1]
The first single from the extended play, "Midnight Moonlight", was also released on September 15, 2015.
Moonlight was produced solely by Sam Antonioli and Joseph Birdsong is credited to have written every song. Candy Coded announced the title and released date of their debut extended play on September 3, 2015. [2] Birdsong unveiled the artwork via Instagram on September 10, 2015. [3] The cover was taken from the music video for "Midnight Moonlight". [4]
On making the extended play, the duo said that they took a lot of breaks due to other commitments and wanting to go at their own pace. [5] Antonioli was in favor of this saying that, "Sometimes when I’m mixing through a song and I’ve heard it three hundred times, [Birdsong's] voice just turns into another instrument to me, I forget there is meaning in the things that [he's] saying… So after a couple of months of not listening to these songs and coming back to them, Joe and I both had this reaction of just like, 'this sounds really good,' I forgot how good this was and I’m listening to the lyrics again thinking, 'wow, this actually makes sense’." [5] He also said that "the songs morphed and moved with [him] through ups and downs" in his life. [5] Birdsong praised Antonioli by saying, "I definitely think this is some of [the] best, if not [the] best, music work you have ever done." [5] Antonioli reciprocated saying that, "the lyrics are such a wonderful contrast to the music." [5]
"Midnight Moonlight" was released as the lead single from Moonlight on the same day, along with a music video directed by gobouPTA on YouTube. [4] It was the first song to be written and composed by Candy Coded. Joseph Birdsong took his lyrical inspiration from "walking down the street at night" in Philadelphia. He compared the song to "Come On Sugar" (Birdsong's solo 2010 song) due to its up-beat and hopeful themes. He also added that it was a different writing process for him as "the majority of [his] songs are about being depressed". Of the lyric structure, Birdsong joked saying that "Midnight Moonlight" is "not the most lyrically extensive song that [he] has ever written", comparing it to "Spending All My Time" by Perfume. [2] Sam Antonioli worked on the production for a year and a half whereas Birdsong recorded his vocals in a day. He admitted to being a "perfectionist" and having to eventually accept that the song was "as good as it’s going to be and declare it as done". [2]
"All the Time" is the second track on the extended play. Antonioli worked on the track for a year and described it as "beat boppy and electronic". He explained that he had to slow down the music by fifty percent during the recording process, as Birdsong found it difficult to enunciate each word in the chorus, and then sped up the vocals in production. [6] Birdsong said that the song is about not being able to get someone off your mind. [6]
"Wonder" is the third track on the extended play. Birdsong recalls looping a beat from a Lorde song to help him write the lyrics. Antonioli later changed the speed and key because it was out of Birdsong's vocal range and sounded too "bassy". [5] Birdsong described the song as "80s sounding" with "cool synths" added by Antonioli. [5] In a tweet, Birdsong said the lyrics to "Wonder" are "practically a journal entry" of his. [7] The working titles for the song were "Lonely" and "I Wonder". [5]

Crazy Town is an American rap rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1995 by Bret "Epic" Mazur and Shifty Shellshock. Crazy Town is best known for their 2000 hit single "Butterfly", which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped their debut album, The Gift of Game (1999), sell over 1.6 million units. Their follow-up album, Darkhorse (2002), failed to achieve the same level of success, contributing to the band's breakup in 2003.
Chevelle is an American rock band formed in Grayslake, Illinois, in 1995. The band was originally composed of two brothers, Pete Loeffler and Sam Loeffler, along with Matt Scott. Scott was replaced by Sam and Pete's brother, Joe Loeffler, in 1996. When Joe left the band in 2005, Geno Lenardo subbed in as the touring bassist until he was replaced by Pete and Sam's brother-in-law, Dean Bernardini. Bernardini departed from the band in 2019, and in 2021, Kemble Walters joined the band as a touring bassist.
Moonsorrow is a Finnish pagan metal band formed in Helsinki in 1995. Musically, the band incorporates elements of black metal and folk metal in their sound. The band call their sound "epic heathen metal" and try to distance themselves from the term "Viking metal". They have distanced themselves from other folk metal bands, emphasising that their music is pagan and spiritual and is challenging for its listeners, rather than happy or danceable. The band members have varying levels of pagan belief but they draw on pagan spirituality for lyrics and inspiration.

Thoughts of a Predicate Felon is the debut studio album by American rapper Tony Yayo. It was released on August 30, 2005, through G-Unit/Interscope Records. Recording sessions took place at Sound One, at Integrated Studios, Sony Music Studios, G Unit Studios, Sound On Sound and Right Track Recording in New York, at 54 Sound in Detroit, at Encore Studios in Los Angeles and at Joi Studios in Atlanta. Production was handled by Focus..., Eminem, Black Jeruz, DJ Khalil, Domingo, Havoc, J. R. Wah Wah is the sixth studio album by the Manchester-based English indie rock band James. After the success of their fourth album, Seven (1992), the band entered Real World Studios, Box, Wiltshire, to record their fifth album Laid in early 1993 with producer Brian Eno, with whom the group had longed to work. Prior to recording Laid, Eno observed the band's jam sessions at their Manchester rehearsal room, and considered these improvised pieces to be as important to the band's music as their eventually crafted songs. He requested to the group that whilst they were recording Laid, they would also concurrently record an album of their improvisations which Eno and, by Eno's request, second producer Markus Dravs would produce in a secondary studio in the Real World complex. Each composition started off with the band's improvisation being recorded, which Dravs would then edit, generally alone whilst James and Eno were recording Laid. Eno and Dravs would take a "promising" part of a recording and then mixed them only once. Tim Booth's desire to re-record some of his vocals caused friction in the studio.
"Sex and Candy" is a song by American alternative rock group Marcy Playground, a single from their 1997 self-titled debut album. It is a post-grunge song with psychedelic elements. Lead singer John Wozniak was inspired to write the song after a woman told him that a room smelled like "sex and candy." The song's abstract lyrics refer to the disco era and include hippie lingo. In 1997, Wozniak said that "Sex and Candy" is an unorthodox love song; later, he said he does not know what the song means. It was released to radio on the week of September 15, 1997. It was physically released on November 4.

"Wooly Bully" is a song originally recorded by rock and roll band Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs in 1964. Based on a standard 12-bar blues progression, it was written by the band's frontman, Domingo "Sam" Samudio. It was released as a single on the small Memphis-based XL label (#906) in 1964 and was picked up in 1965 by MGM. The song was recorded at Sam C. Phillips Recording Studio at 639 Madison Avenue in Memphis, the successor to Phillips' original Sun Studio. It proved to be the only recording made at the studio to achieve national success.
Robbers & Cowards is the debut studio album by American indie rock band Cold War Kids. It was released on October 10, 2006 by Downtown Records. The album received a generally positive reception from critics who praised the band's blues rock production and morose lyrics. Robbers & Cowards peaked at number 173 on the Billboard 200 and spawned three singles: "We Used to Vacation", "Hang Me Up to Dry" and "Hospital Beds". To promote the album, the band spent most of 2007 touring across North America and Europe through appearances at music festivals and talk shows.
The Genius Sings the Blues is an album by Ray Charles, released in October 1961 on Atlantic Records. The album was his last release for Atlantic, compiling twelve blues songs from various sessions during his tenure for the label. The album showcases Charles's stylistic development with a combination of piano blues, jazz, and southern R&B. The photo for the album cover was taken by renowned photographer Lee Friedlander. The Genius Sings the Blues was reissued in 2003 by Rhino Entertainment with liner notes by Billy Taylor.
Set It Off is an American rock band formed in 2008 in Tampa, Florida. The band consists of lead vocalist Cody Carson, guitarist and bassist Zach Dewall, and drummer Maxx Danziger.
Brooke Dyan Candy is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and tattoo artist. Raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, daughter of Tom Candy, former CFO of Hustler magazine, Brooke rose to prominence after starring in Grimes' music video for "Genesis" (2012). Following its success, Candy's status in the underground scene rose as she began to release her own music, including the songs "Das Me" (2012), "Everybody Does" (2013), and "I Wanna Fuck Right Now" (2013). In 2014, she signed a recording contract with RCA and released her debut major label single, "Opulence", with an accompanying EP of the same name. Later, she joined Columbia's UK roster.

"Bumble Bee" is a song by Russian-German DJ Zedd and Canadian production duo Botnek, from Zedd's second studio album, True Colors. It was written by Zedd, Botnek, David Gamson and Roger Troutman and was released on July 10, 2015 as the second promotional single. The song features additional uncredited talk box vocals from Chromeo member Patrick "P-Thugg" Gemayel – which appear halfway through the track – and heavily samples lyrics from Roger Troutman's 1991 song "Break Through".
"Dammn Baby" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Janet Jackson for her eleventh studio album Unbreakable (2015). It was co-written and produced by Jackson and her long-time collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, with additional songwriting and production contributions by Dem Jointz. The official music video was released on YouTube, on May 4, 2016. The single subsequently debuted on the US Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart at number 20 and later peaked at number eight, becoming the album's third consecutive top ten single on the chart, after "No Sleeep" and "Unbreakable".
Candy Coded is an American electropop music project formed in 2015 from Missoula, Montana and Little Rock, Arkansas. The duo is composed of record producer Sam Antonioli and singer-songwriter Joseph Birdsong. The band released their debut extended play, Moonlight, on September 15, 2015.
