Morris Rajapaksa (b. - d. 1995) was the 3rd Chief Minister of Western Province. He was appointed on 22 August 1994 succeeding Chandrika Kumaratunga,after she was elected as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Rajapaska served as Chief Minister until his death on 11 July 1995. He was succeeded by Susil Premajayanth. [1]

Ranil Wickremesinghe is a Sri Lankan politician,who is the current acting president of Sri Lanka since 2022,in his capacity as the prime minister after the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on 15 July 2022. A constitutional crisis began in Sri Lanka when President Maithripala Sirisena appointed former president and member of parliament Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister on 26 October 2018 before formally dismissing the incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe,resulting in two concurrent Prime Ministers. Wickremesinghe and the United National Party (UNP) viewed the appointment as illegal,and he refused to resign.

The constitution requires for a successor to be elected within 30 days. Nominations will be selected by 19 July in advance of the election the following day.
2022 Sri Lankan protests are an ongoing mass protests against the government of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in March 2022. The government was criticized for mismanaging the Sri Lankan economy,leading to a subsequent economic crisis and severe inflation,daily blackouts,and a shortage of fuel,domestic gas,and other essential goods. The main demand of the protesters was the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and key officials from the Rajapaksa family. Despite the involvement of several opposition parties,most protesters have considered themselves to be apolitical,and some have expressed discontent with the parliamentary opposition. During the protests,protesters chanted slogans such as "go home Gota" and "go home Rajapaksas". The protests have been mainly staged by the general public,with youths playing a major part by carrying out protests at Galle Face Green.
