Major General Moses Ddiba Ssentongo is a military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). He is one of two deputy director generals of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the investment vehicle of the UPDF. He was appointed to that position in March 2016. [1] Before that, from June 2013 [2] until June 2014, [3] he served as the chairman of the UPDF General Court Martial, one of the highest military courts in the UPDF. Before that, Ssentongo served as the political commissar of the UPDF. He replaced Fred Tolit, who was appointed as Uganda’s Defense Attaché to the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. [4]

He has also served as the chief of education and sports in the UPDF. [5]

During his tenure, as chairman of the General Court Martial of the UPDF, the court martial handled a number of important cases including:

  1. The trial of Michael Ondoga, the former commander of the Ugandan contingent to AMISOM in Somalia. The trial was still ongoing as of June 2014. [6]
  2. The sentencing of four men, gun smugglers, who shot and killed Annick Van De Venster, a female Belgian tourist, whose campfire they mistook for a park ranger's. Fred Kipsang, the triggerman, was sentenced to 30 years in prison. His accomplices, Moses Chemtai, Patrick Chebles, and Kamada Chepkurui, were each given ten years behind bars. [7] [8]
  3. The ongoing corruption and embezzlement trial of Shaban Bantariza, a former UPDF spokesperson and one-time Director of the National Leadership Institute (NALI), based in Kyankwanzi, Kyankwanzi District, Central Uganda. [9]
  4. The ongoing trial of Hassan Kimbowa, former commanding officer of Battle Group XI in the Ugandan AMISOM contingent to Somalia. He and Benson Olanya, a member of the same military unit, are accused of selling military fuel to Somali citizens, contrary to standing orders. [10]

In his current assignment as deputy director general of the NEC, he reports directly to the director general of the NEC, James Mugira. [1]

On 28 March 2020, he was promoted from the rank of Brigadier to that of Major General. [11]

NEC was established in 1989 by an Act of the Parliament of Uganda. Its investments and activities include agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, services, and defense industry projects and companies.

Shaban Bantariza (1963–2020), was a retired Colonel in the Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF). He served as the deputy director of the Uganda Media Centre and deputy government spokesperson, from June 2015. He died on 27 October 2020 at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he had been admitted two days before, complaining of chest discomfort, fatigue and cough. Before his death, his samples had tested positive for COVID-19. He also suffered from diabetes mellitus and systemic hypertension.

Katumba Wamala Ugandan politician

Edward Katumba Wamala, more commonly known as Katumba Wamala, is a Ugandan general who serves as Minister of Works and Transport in the Ugandan cabinet, since 14 December 2019.

Lieutenant General Andrew Gutti is a Ugandan military officer. He is the Chairman of the General Court Martial of the Uganda People's Defence Force. He was appointed to that position in May 2016, replacing the late Major General Levi Karuhanga.

Brigadier Kayanja Muhanga, is Ugandan army officer. He currently serves as the Commander of the UPDF Contingent in Somalia . He was appointed to that position in January 2014 by General Yoweri Museveni, the Commander in Chief of the UPDF and the President of Uganda. Prior to that, Brigadier Muhanga served as the Commandant of the Military Police within the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF).

Brigadier Fred Tolit, is a military officer. He currently serves as Uganda's Defense Attaché to the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Prior to that, he served as the Chairman of the UPDF General Court Martial, one of the highest military courts in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). He was replaced by Brigadier Moses Ddiba Ssentongo, the current Chairman, in June 2013.

Brigadier Richard Prit Olum, commonly known as Dick Olum, is a military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF), who serves as Uganda's military attache at the Ugandan embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, based in Kinshasa, since October 2017.

Sam Kavuma Ugandan military officer

Major General Sam Kavuma, whose full name is Samuel Kavuma, is a Ugandan senior military officer. He currently serves as the Deputy Commander of Land Forces in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF), effective 1 December 2017, being the first person in that newly-created position. Immediately prior to his current position, he served as the deputy commander of the UPDF Air Force. Before that, Kavuma served as the Commander of the UPDF Contingent in Somalia, as part of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM). He was appointed to that position in October 2014. He replaced Brigadier Dick Olum, who served in that position from September 2013 until October 2014.

Major General Innocent Felix Oula is a senior army officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). As of March 2020, he serves as the Head of Civil Military Cooperation. He concurrently serves as one of the UPDF representatives to the Parliament of Uganda. He was elected to that position in January 2014, replacing renegade General David Sejusa, who was expelled from Parliament.

James Nakibus Lakara, commonly known as Nakibus Lakara, is a Ugandan Lieutenant General in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). Since June 2016, he has been the commander of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre based in Jinja in the Eastern Region of Uganda. From April 2015 until June 2016, he served as the deputy force commander of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) and was in charge of logistical support. From July 2013 until April 2015, he served as the commanding officer of the UPDF 3rd Division, based in Moroto.

James Mugira is a lieutenant general in the Ugandan army. He is the managing director and chief executive officer of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). He was appointed to that position in April 2015. He concurrently serves as the managing director of Luweero Defence Industries Limited, the small-arms manufacturer owned by the UPDF. He has served in that capacity since 2011. From 2008 until 2011, at the rank of brigadier, he served as the director general of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, a division of the UPDF. Before that, he served as the commanding officer of the UPDF Armored Brigade, based in Masaka.

Michael Ondoga Ugandan military officer

Major General Michael Ondoga, is a senior military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). He currently serves as the Military Attache to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was appointed to that position in July 2019.

Lieutenant General Charles Lwanga Lutaaya, is a senior Ugandan military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He is the Commander of the UPDF Air Force. Before that, he was the Deputy Commander of the UPDF Air Force.

Ronnie Balya Ugandan general

Ronnie Balya is a Ugandan military officer currently serving at the rank of Brigadier in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). He served as Uganda's ambassador to South Sudan, based in Juba, from 2017 until 2020. Before that, from 2010 until 2017, he was the Director General of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO).

Major General Don William Nabasa, is a Ugandan military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He currently serves as the Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), an elite unit that is responsible for the security of the President of Uganda, and that of traditional cultural leaders and vital national installations, as well as the country's oil fields. He assumed command of the SFC, in January 2017, taking over from Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who was appointed Senior Presidential Adviser on military affairs.

Paul Lokech, is a senior military officer at the rank of Major General, in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), who was appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Uganda Police Force on 16 December 2020. Between November 2017 and December 2019, he served on special assignment "to monitor on behalf of the guarantors of the South Sudan peace process, the assembling, screening, demobilization and integration of the armed forces of South Sudan".

Brigadier Michael Kabango, is a Ugandan military officer, who serves as the commander of the Ugandan contingent to the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM). He took up that position on 21 December 2018.
