Moses Kunkuyu is a Malawi politician who currently serves as the Minister of Information and Civic Education. He is also a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Malawi. [1]
Kunkuyu is one of the youngest politicians in the country. In 2009,he was elected Member of Parliament for the Blantyre south constituency on a Democratic Progressive Party ticket. Following the unpopularity of the Bingu wa Mutharika administration,Kunkuyu alleged in an interview for Zodiak Radio,Malawi that the advisors to the Party leadership were "too timid" to face him to Mutharika,and that the Party was living a lie. [2] He subsequently formed the Hope Alliance,a pressure group within the Party seeking to influence change from within to the Mutharika government. This led to a hostile response from the government. [3] Following the succession of Joyce Banda to the Malawi Presidency,Kunkuyu was appointed Minister of Information and Civic Education. [4]
The United Democratic Front is a political party in Malawi founded in 1992 by Bakili Muluzi. It claims to be a liberal party in Malawi and is mainly strong in the southern region populated by ethnic Yao. Bakili Muluzi was President of Malawi from 1994 to 2004.
John Zenus Ungapake Tembo is a Malawian politician who served for years as President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). Tembo comes from the Dedza District in central Malawi,and he is a teacher by profession. Beginning in the 1960s he was an important politician in Malawi,and he was a key figure in the regime of Hastings Banda (1964–1994). He has been variously described as "physically slight,ascetic,fastidious" and "cunning". He was replaced as President of the MCP in August 2013.

Joyce Hilda Banda is a Malawian politician who was the President of Malawi from 7 April 2012 to 31 May 2014. Banda took office as President following the sudden death of President Bingu wa Mutharika. She is the founder and leader of the People's Party,created in 2011. An educator and grassroots women's rights activist,she was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2009 and the Vice-President of Malawi from May 2009 to April 2012. She had served in various roles as a member of Parliament and as Minister of Gender and Child Welfare before she became the President of the Republic of Malawi.
Raising Malawi is a charity non-profit organization that was founded by Madonna and Michael Berg in 2006. It is dedicated to helping with the extreme poverty and hardship endured by Malawi's one million orphans,primarily through health and education programming. Initially,the "Raising Malawi Academy for Girls" was to be constructed but following an audit by the Global Philanthropy Group,which questioned expenditure on salaries and benefits as well as the management capacity and culture,the charity's school headmistress resigned in October 2010 and the project was scrapped.
Madame Ethel Mutharika was the First Lady of Malawi and wife of the President of Malawi,Bingu wa Mutharika. Madam Mutharika was born in Zimbabwe. As First Lady,wa Mutharika was known for her charitable work and had established the Ethel Mutharika Foundation in an effort to help the poor of Malawi. wa Mutharika died in Lilongwe after a long battle with cancer at the age of 63.
Madame Callista Chapola-Chimombo is a Malawian politician and the widow of President Bingu wa Mutharika. She served as the First Lady of the Republic of Malawi from 2010 to 2012. Chimombo is a previous member of the Cabinet of Malawi as a National Coordinator of Maternal,Infant and Child Health and HIV/Nutrition/Malaria and Tuberculosis.
Justin Chimera Malewezi was a Malawian politician and a Member of Parliament for Ntchisi North in the Central Region of Malawi. He was Vice-President of Malawi from 1994 to 2004. Malewezi quit the United Democratic Front in 2004 and eventually represented the People's Progressive Movement in the 2004 general election,in which he garnered 2.5% of the total national vote.

When the Minister of Justice claimed that the bill made flatulence in public illegal,the story made headlines around the world. Later,the minister retracted his statement.

The Zero Deficit Budget (ZDB) is a financial strategy laid out by Minister of Finance Ken Kandodo of Malawi under the Bingu wa Mutharika administration that is based on zero-based budgeting. This is a new approach to economic financial budgeting for 'Least Developed Countries' where the government aims to finance all the recurrent expenditures using its own domestic resources. Kandodo mentioned that this new ZDB is based on several consultations and studies,he did not cite any country on which he will model the zero-deficit budget approach nor a successfully executed Zero Deficit budget.
Honorable John F. Bande is the current Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation in Malawi. He is the Member of Parliament for Blantyre City East. In 2006 he served as the Deputy Minister of Information &Civic Education.

Ralph Kasambara is a Malawian lawyer,who served as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General since April 2012. He also served as the former Attorney General under the administration of Bingu wa Mutharika during the early part of the administration. After which he became the legal representative of the then Malawian vice-president,Joyce Banda. Kasambara has been a critic of the administration of Bingu wa Mutharika,being vocal about grounds for impeachment and commenting that "wants to be a dictator". He was jailed in February 2012,after thugs went to his office with petrol bombs in an attempted arson plot,he called the police,together with supporters and restrained the perpetrators. Instead he was arrested for kidnapping and torture of the thugs. He was later released on bail,and then arrested again over the faulty bail procedures.
The 2012 Malawian constitutional crisis occurred from April 5,2012 - April 7,2012 after senior members of the Democratic Progressive Party-led cabinet failed to notify the public of the death of the sitting president,Bingu wa Mutharika on April 5. Instead,cabinet ministers held a series of meetings in Lilongwe,Malawi without vice-president Joyce Banda with the aim of undermining the constitution and Banda's succession to Presidency. News confirming his death had,however,quickly spread across the country through word of mouth,cellphone text messages,Malawian bloggers,Twitter,Facebook,and on listservs by the end of the day on April 5,2012. Therefore,the failure to announce his death resulted in speculation over the real health of the president and over whether the succession procedures would be followed as outlined in the constitution. According to the constitution,the vice-president takes over but there had been no official word on a successor or communication with the vice-president. Amidst growing speculation,the Cabinet announced that the president's brother,Peter Mutharika,the foreign minister,was the new President of the party on April 6. The Cabinet only announced his death two days after his death,after which Banda became Malawi's first female President.
Raphael (Ralph) Tenthani was a freelance journalist from Malawi. Tenthani was a BBC correspondent and a columnist for The Sunday Times. He was a respected journalist in Malawi well known for his popular column,"The Muckraking". He was well known for providing political analysis on topical issues. He had been the subject of controversy for his candid reporting on political issues. He was very critical of the crackdown on journalism during the Bingu wa Mutharika administration. He was also a columnist for Associated Press,Pan African News Agency,and the Maravi Post.
Sosten Gwengwe is a Malawian politician currently serving as Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of the Republic of Malawi since January 30 2022. He previously served as Minister of Trade from June 2020 until his appointment as Finance and Economic Affairs Minister. He was elected to Parliament in 2009 as a member of the Malawi Congress Party,but announced on August 31,2011 that he was switching to the Democratic Progressive Party because the MCP "had nothing to offer to the country" and the DPP under President Bingu wa Mutharika had a "clear vision of developing the country". Following the death of President Mutharika,he joined the People's Party.
