Okot Moses Junior Bitek is a Ugandan lawyer and politician who serves as a member of Parliament representing Kioga Constituency Amolatar District. He was elected on 14 January 2021. He is a member of the FDC party. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Early Life and background

Okot was born in Gulu District to Mr. Angiro John (father) a retired teacher and Miss Imat Keller Angiro (mother) of the Okarowok Clan. Okot attended Amuca SDA Primary School for his PLE, Aputi Secondary School for O-level (2001-2005) and Gombe Secondary School for his A-level (2006-2007). In 2015, Okot graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University as well as he received his Diploma in Legal Practice from Law Development Centre in 2017.

Career

Working experience

While he was at Law Development Centre, Okot served as Guild President from 2016 to 2017. For a period of 3years (2017-2020), Okot Jr was an associate lawyer with Oloya & Company Advocates, a law firm based in Gulu town. He served as a chairperson of the Forum for Democratic Change at Makerere University (2010-2011). Currently, Okot practices with Gem and Company Advocates.

Political career

In January 2021, he was elected as a Member of Parliament representing Kioga Constituency in Amolatar District in the eleventh Parliament of Uganda (2021 to 2026) in the 2021 Ugandan general election and on 21 May 2021 he sworn in as the Member of Parliament. [5] He won with 8537 votes defeating NRM’s candidate Okello Anthony [6] [2] He is a member on the Human Rights Committee and of the Defense and Internal Affairs since 2021. He serves as the Deputy Chairperson of Lango Parliamentary Caucus since 2021. In May 2022, Okot contested as FDC party's flag bearer in the race for the deputy speaker of the 11th parliament. Conflicts

He was shot on the leg by a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier while holding a mobilisation rally for People Power, [9] in Amolatar District. [10] [11]

Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. The main administrative block was gutted by fire in September 2020 and the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

Gregory Mugisha Muntuyera, commonly referred to as Mugisha Muntu, is a Ugandan politician and retired military officer. He is the current President of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), a political party he founded in March 2019. He previously served as the President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), an opposition political party, from 2012 to 2017. In September 2018, General Muntu parted ways with the FDC citing ideological differences with the new FDC leadership of Hon.Patrick Oboi Amuriat. Bright Kanyontore Rwamirama is a Ugandan politician and retired army officer. He is the minister for animal industry in the Ugandan cabinet. He was appointed to that position on 1 June 2006. In the cabinet reshuffle of 16 February 2009, that of 27 May 2011, and that of 1 March 2015, he retained his cabinet post. He also serves as the elected Member of Parliament representing "Isingiro County North", Isingiro District. He has served in that capacity continuously since 2001. and he beat Posiono Mugyenyi in 2021 general election.

Jacob L'Okori Oulanyah was a Ugandan agricultural economist, lawyer, and politician, who served as the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda since 2021 until 2022. He was elected to that position on 24 May 2021, after defeating his tenacious rival the then incumbent Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga. He served as Deputy Speaker of the Ugandan parliament, from May 2011 until May 2021. Oulanyah was also the member of parliament representing the Omoro County constituency, Omoro District, Acholi sub-region, in the Uganda's Northern Region.

Anita Annet Among is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer and politician who is the incumbent Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda (2022–2026). Dr. Lillian Aber is the women's representative for Kitgum District in the eleventh Parliament of Uganda. She represented the National Resistance Movement under re-elected President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. In the 2021 general election, Dr.Aber won with 41,192 votes against Roselyn Alanyo Olobo of the Uganda People's Congress and Norah Odokorach, an independent candidate.

Akello Judith Franca is a Ugandan politician and economist. She is the district woman representative of Agago in the eighth, ninth and tenth Parliament of Uganda. In the eleventh Parliament, she stood for Woman MP for Agago but lost with 26,840 votes. She was affiliated to the Forum for Democratic Change political party in the 10th Parliament. She was also the National Resistance Movement member.

Gilbert Olanya is a Ugandan politician who served as a member of the Ugandan Parliament representing Kilak South on the ticket of the Forum for Democratic Change.

Charles Onen is a Ugandan Catholic priest, politician and member of the parliament from Gulu East constituency. He was elected to the parliament as an independent candidate. In parliament he serves on the Rules committee.

Victor Nekesa is a Ugandan physician, military officer and legislator. She represents the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) in the parliament of Uganda.
