Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman (born 1 December 1961) is a retired Bangladeshi general. He was a lieutenant general and the former principal staff officer (PSO) under the prime minister's office and head of the Armed Forces Division. [1] [2]
He was born on 1 December 1961 in Rajshahi district. [3] He was a cadet of Jhenidah cadet college. In 1981 he graduated from Bangladesh Military Academy and was commissioned from 5th Long Course into the Corps of Infantry. He completed further studies in Staff College and Armed Forces War Course at Mirpur. [4] He is a former adjutant general at army headquarters. [5]
He is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College and Armed Forces War Course, Mirpur Bangladesh. He is also an alumnus of National Defence College, India (New Delhi) and Royal College of Defence Studies, UK (London). He completed master's degrees in defence studies (MDS), war studies (MWS) and business administration (MBA). He has also obtained an M.Phil. from Madras University, India and PhD from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh.[ citation needed ]
He has edited a book, Indo-Bangladesh Trade Relations, and his second book, Non-Traditional Security Strategy for Addressing Trans-border Crime in Bangladesh, is awaiting publication. [6]
He commanded one infantry battalion, two infantry brigades and one infantry division of the Bangladesh Army. He has served as brigade major and
general staff officer grade one and director military operations in the headquarters of the Bangladesh Army. He has also served as instructor in the Bangladesh Military Academy, directing the Staff of War Course at the National Defence College. He has also served as a commandant in Defence Service Command & Staff College and commandant in the School of Infantry & Tactics of the Bangladesh Army. He has served as the Adjutant General of the Bangladesh Army and vice chairman of Trust Bank.[ citation needed ]
Rahman has served in peace support operations under United Nations in Mozambique and Sierra-Leone. [3]
Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury was a Bangladesh Army general who was 11th Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army from 16 June 2002 to 15 June 2005. He was the last officer to serve in this position who had first been commissioned by and served with the Pakistani Army, before the Liberation War of 1971. He served for two years before the war.
Mohammad Abdul Mubeen is a retired Bangladeshi army officer who served as the chief of army staff of the Bangladesh Army from 2009 to 2012. Prior to his appointment as chief of army staff, Abdul Mubeen served as principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division. He served as general officer commanding of two divisions: the 24th Infantry Division and the 55th Infantry Division. He retired from the army in 2012, after serving as army chief.

Earlier, he was adjutant general of the Bangladesh Army. He was also the vice chairman of Trust Bank's board of directors. He served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 55 Infantry Division & Area Commander of Jessore Area. He also served as the director of Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Bureau (CTIB) of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. He served as commander of 46th Independent Infantry Brigade. He also served as additional director general (operations) of the Rapid Action Battalion.
The principal staff officer, abbreviated as PSO, is the head of the Armed Forces Division, a ministry level joint forces headquarters under Chief Adviser's office. It acts as the high command of the national armed forces. It is currently held by a three-star rank lieutenant general.
