Muhammad Nawaz Bhatti

Justice Muhammad Nawaz Bhatti (August 1948– 10 July 2006) who hailed from Sangla Hill area of Sheikhupura district was a Pakistani judge and lawyer. He was a judge of Lahore High Court, Lahore, (Punjab) Pakistan and a well known criminal lawyer and law officer representing the governments of Punjab and Pakistan.

He was appointed as an Additional Advocate General Punjab in 1998–1999 [1] earlier he also served as an Assistant Advocate General Punjab twice in 1993 and 1997. He was appointed as Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan [2] from 2000 to 2004, when he was sworn in as a judge of the Lahore High Court in Multan on January 12, 2004. [3]

He died in a plane crash near Multan Airport on 10 July 2006, while he was serving as judge. [4] [5] The plane burst into flames shortly after takeoff and landed in a wheat field three kilometres from the airport. [6] His funeral was attended by hundreds including his fellow judges. He was buried in Sangla Hill. [7] His son Amir Nawaz Bhatti is also a practicing lawyer and member of Lahore High Court Bar Association, Lahore.

On 10 July 2006, the aircraft operating the route, a Fokker F27, crashed into a mango garden after one of its two engines failed shortly after takeoff from Multan International Airport. All 41 passengers and four crewmembers on board were killed.

Malik Mohammad Qayyum was a Pakistani lawyer who was Senior Advocate Supreme Court and Attorney General of Pakistan. He was replaced by Senator Latif Khosa when President Pervez Musharraf resigned on 18 August 2008. He became Attorney General following the resignation of Makhdoom Ali Khan. He was a Judge of the Lahore High Court, which he resigned from after a phone transcript of his was released in which he was alleged to be approached by the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government to fix judgement in a case before him involving Benazir Bhutto. Qayyum denied that the voice in the telephone conversation was his. Agencies have examined the tapes and have expressed their concern that they could have been doctored although no final verdict is available.
