Muhammad Zahirul Islam is a retired major general of the Bangladesh Army. [1] [2] He is now in LPR. Before that, he served as Master General of Ordnance at Army Headquarters. Prior to join there, he was commander of the logistics area of Dhaka Cantonment. He is the chief patron of Baridhara Scholars' International School and College. [3] He was the vice-president of Kurmitola Golf Club. [4] He was the senior vice-president of Bangladesh Golf Federation. [5]
Islam had served as a faculty at the National Defence College of Bangladesh Army. [6]
On 29 July 2020, Islam was transferred from the Bangladesh Army to the Ministry of Commerce and made chairperson of the Bangladesh Tea Board. [7] [8] Under him, the Bangladesh Tea Board organized the National Tea Day in June 2021. [9] He is the founding chairperson of Camellia Open Sky School, a charity school for children of tea workers. [10]
The Bangladesh Armed Forces are the military forces of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. They consist of the three uniformed military services: the Bangladesh Army, the Bangladesh Navy, and the Bangladesh Air Force. The Bangladesh Army is the land warfare branch, and the largest component of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The primary mission of the Army is to defend the land of Bangladesh from any external attack. Control of personnel and operations is administered by the Army Headquarters, Dhaka Cantonment. The Bangladesh Army is also constitutionally obligated to assist the government, during times of domestic national emergency e.g. the army helps people during any natural calamity. This additional role is commonly referred to as "aid to civil administration" or, using the Latin form, "Protectio, Transparentia, Reintegratio", in others words, "Protect and Serve".
Dhaka Cantonment is a cantonment located in the northern part of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The headquarters of the Bangladesh Army and Air Force are situated within the cantonment. The cantonment is located on the north-east end of Dhaka.

Savar Cantonment is a cantonment of the Bangladesh Army located in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The 9th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army is garrisoned there. The Corps of Military Police Centre & School (CMPC&S), Army Institute of Business Administration (AIBA), Savar Golf Club (SGC), Savar DOHS and many more establishments are located in the cantonment.
Airport Road, also known as Tongi Division Road, a part of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway (N3), is an 8-lane major artery road in Dhaka, that connects Dhaka city, with the Shahjalal International Airport. It is also the main artery that connects Dhaka with the northern suburb of Uttara and the only road that connects Dhaka with northern Districts of Bangladesh and vice versa. Traffic is fairly smooth throughout the road, due to flyovers and interchanges.
Kurmitola Golf Club is a golf club in Dhaka Cantonment, Bangladesh. Operated by Bangladesh Army. The president of the club is the Chief of Army Staff Bangladesh Army General Waker-uz-Zaman, OSP, SGP, psc The club has been described as "prestigious".

He was general officer commanding, Army Training and Doctrine Command, Mymensingh Cantonment. Prior to join ARTDOC, he was GOC of 24 Infantry Division and area commander of Chattogram area. Earlier, he was adjutant general of the Bangladesh Army. He was also the vice chairman of Trust Bank's board of directors. He served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 55 Infantry Division & Area Commander of Jessore Area. He also served as the director of Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Bureau (CTIB) of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. He served as commander of 46th Independent Infantry Brigade. He also served as additional director general (operations) of the Rapid Action Battalion.
